Joan Tobin, 78 of Peshtigo, passed away on Monday, Sept. 9, at Bay Area Medical Center.
Born on June 20, 1935 in Menominee, Mi., she was the daughter of the late William C. and Alda M. (Ducharme) Gaeth. On Dec. 12, 1953, she married William J. Tobin at St. Mary Catholic Church in Peshtigo and he preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1998.
A member of many card clubs, she enjoyed trips to the casino and was former owner-operator of the Corner Store in Peshtigo, which became The Cherished Child Day Care for 25 years. To the present, she cherished every child she cared for. She retired in 2005 and on Aug. 18, 2005 was given a gift of life, a new kidney, from her sister, Kay so she could continue to enjoy life. She was a strong supporter of the Emergency Rescue Squad and helped write thank yous for the fund raiser.
She is survived by a son, Patrick (Betsy) Tobin; two daughters, Catherine (Carl) Malke and Linn Tobin, all of Peshtigo; six grandchildren, Emily, Chelsey and William Tobin and Mindy, Haley and Kyle Malke; a great-grandchild, Carley Catherine Malke and was looking forward to the birth of another great-grandchild, Elliott. She is further survived by three sisters, Lori (Jack) Lund, Kay (Alfred) Waddingham, Kristine Timm; a brother-in-law, Donald Jones and a special cousin, Mary Hahn of Peshtigo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Nancy Jones.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 13, at Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m. with Rev. Father John Harper officiating. A fellowship will follow at Drees Community Center. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Peshtigo.
