Patriot Runners Finish Second And Third In Cross-Country
Hosts Peshtigo In Showdown Match Thurs.
The M-O Conference lead will be on the line Thursday night as second place Peshtigo (6-1) heads to league leading Coleman (7-0). Both teams recorded a trio of M-O wins this past week as the defending champion Cougars prevailed in a triangular at Niagara Thursday then easily disposed of STAA on Tuesday.
Meanwhile the Bulldogs survived an upset bid by Suring in a home triangular and beat Lena before knocking off Wausaukee.
Coleman Collects Wins
Against STAA, Niagara
The first place Cougars dominated the Cavalettes and the Badgers in triangular play in Niagara Thursday, picking up a pair of conference wins in the process.
The team was led by 55 assists, eight digs, three kills and five aces by Lindsey Kerr. Makenzie Sadowski added 12 digs, three blocks, 19 kills and two aces; Abby Bieber had six aces, 15 kills, two assists and six digs while teammate Sammy Schaal chipped in 13 digs, an assist, five aces and a kill.
STAA got 10 kills, 11 assists, nine digs and a block from Alyssa Hornick.
Niagara was led by Shelby Borchardt's 84 digs and four kills to go along with teammate Shanna Nordell's 10 kills and 13 digs.
Rangers Roll To Pair
Of M-O Wins At Home
It was another late night of triangular action in Wausaukee Thursday and when the dust settled around the net, the Rangers were on top with two wins. Wausaukee earned a long-winded 25-14, 22-25, 25-14, 25-18 victory over Gillett, followed by a 25-23, 25-17, 25-4 win over Crivitz in the final game of the evening.
Leading the way for Wausaukee was Lauren Edlbeck with 27 kills, nine aces, a pair of blocks and a pair of assists. Kaylor DeLaet turned in 24 assists, four aces and four kills while Crysta Clark had a big night at the service stripe, racking up 16 aces to go along with her 10 assists, four kills and a block.
Crivitz's Jen Kempka was all over the court for the Wolverines, notching 30 total assists in the team's two matches in addition to three kills and seven digs. Vikki Neumann tallied 20 kills, four digs and six aces while Samara Olson finished with seven digs, seven kills, a block and two aces.
Gillett got a dramatic 20-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-10 win over Crivitz and overall on the night were led by 29 assists and 10 aces from Jessica Anderson; eight kills, seven blocks and an ace from Brianna Lemirande; 10 kills, seven aces and a block from Kara Brennan; eight kills from Taylor Kohls as well as eight kills, two blocks, three assists and three aces from Marissa Sherman.
Bulldogs Roll Over
The Peshtigo Bulldogs continued to assert themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the M-O as they continue to roll over competition. Thursday at home, the Bulldogs survived a 19-25, 25-14, 25-25, 25-7, 15-5 match against the competitive Suring Eagles before roaring to a three-game win over Lena 25-10, 25-17, 25-14.
We're really playing well as a team," said Peshtigo head coach Lynn Tonn-Kostreva. "All of the things we've been working on in practice are paying off. Our transitioning has improved greatly and I'm very pleased with how the girls are playing."
Carly Dietrich had a big night for the Bulldogs, scoring 23 kills, an ace, a block, an assist and 57 digs over the course of the evening. Maizie Reif had four aces, seven kills, two assists and 41 digs; Nicole Motkowski had 37 digs, 28 assists, three blocks and 14 kills while Teja Tonn tallied three aces, eight kills, two blocks, an assist and 26 digs.
Suring got 39 assists, 25 digs, an ace and three kills from Kelsey School; Breanna Tienor had 39 assists, 10 digs and two aces while Calley VanBellinger went for 22 digs, an assist, 17 kills and an ace.
Lena was led by 13 kills, eight blocks, two assists and seven digs from Melissa Bushmaker while Kayla VanLanen notched 11 kills, 16 digs and an assist.
The Cougars picked up an easy conference victory as they traveled to Marinette and defeated STAA 25-9, 25-12, 25-7.
Lindsey Kerr led the winners with 15 assists, two digs, three kills and four aces;Makenzie Sadowski turned in five aces and seven kills; while Lily Cornelius added a dig, two blocks, four kills and two aces.
Riley Schultz led the way for the Cavalettes on a rough night with six digs and three kills. Teammate Alyssa Hornick had three kills, two digs and two assists.
Peshtigo Slips Past
Rangers In 4 Games
The Peshtigo Bulldogs opened up Tuesday night's action with 25-15 and 25-18 wins against Wausaukee before dropping game three 20-25. But the team rebounded to win game four 25-18 and close out the evening victorious.
"The third game was disappointing," said Peshtigo head coach Lynn Tonn-Kostreva. "I think the girls thought that they had the match. You never assume! We really need to work on finishing it."
Nicole Motkowski led the way for Peshtigo with her 17 digs, 12 assists, five blocks, four kills and two aces. Maizie Reif added 20 digs, six kills and three aces while Teja Tonn chipped in eight kills, three blocks, an assist and four digs.
For Wausaukee, Kaylor DeLaet had 12 assists, a block, three kills and two aces while Lauren Edlbeck contributed two aces and eight kills.
To Suring Netters
The Crivitz netters continue their struggle to get themselves on track in conference play as they dropped a match at home on Tuesday to the visiting Suring Eagles 25-21, 24-26, 16-25.
Jen Kempka led the way for Crivitz with three aces, 14 assists, six digs and two kills. Samara Olson had five kills, nine digs and an ace while Vikki Neumann added five kills, seven digs and three aces.
For the Eagles, Kelsey School turned in 10 digs, five assists and three kills; Erin Fisher added three aces, two kills, two blocks, two assists and seven digs. Calley VanBellinger had 10 digs, an assist, three kills and an ace.
Tigers Trounce Wildcats
The Gillett girls needed just three games to dispatch the Wildcats in Lena 25-18, 25-18, 25-12.
For the winners, Brianna Lemirande had nine kills, two blocks and five aces; Jessica Anderson had 17 assists and seven aces; Maya Breed had five aces and two kills; Taylor Kohls notched five kills and an assist; Kara Brennan had three kills, two blocks and two digs while Marissa Sherman had four kills, one assist and a dig.
For Lena, Melissa Bushmaker had four kills, three blocks and an ace while Hailey Salter turned in five assists.

Peshtigo Finishes 3-3 At
Tough Shawano Invite
The Peshtigo volleyball team fared well against unfamiliar competition Saturday at the Shawano Invitational, defeating Kewaunee 22-25, 27-25, 15-12; beating Clintonville 25-20, 25-20, falling to Oconto Falls 19-25, 8-25; losing to Oconto 25-23, 21-25, 11-15; coming up short against the host team Shawano 17-25, 25-22, 8-15 before defeating Valders 25-19, 25-23.
"It was quite a roller coaster of a day," said head coach Lynn Tonn-Kostreva. "We would have some really great games and then we'd turn around in the next game and really struggle. We did finish 3-3 overall, which really isn't bad considering the talent that was there."
Maizie Reif was busy with 71 digs on the day to go along with six kills and three aces; Carly Dietrich matched with 71 digs of her own in addition to a block, 21 kills and two aces; Amy Courtois had four aces and 49 digs; Taylor Sodini turned in 33 digs, 24 assists, five kills and four aces; Teja Tonn had two aces, 22 kills, three blocks and 36 digs while Nicole Motkowski had 45 digs, 37 assists, 10 blocks, 15 kills and three aces.
