Cougars Extend Lead

Sweeps Peshtigo And Gillett For 9-0 Net Readout

Continuing to dominate the M-O Conference nets, the talented Coleman Cougars used a pair of sweeps to run their league mark to a perfect 9-0. The league leading Coleman netters turned back second place Peshtigo 25-20, 25-13 and 25-20 Thursday then posted a 25-11, 25-16 and 25-23 sweep of Tuesday.

Sporting that 9-0 readout, the Cougars hold a two game lead over Peshtigo (7-2) and Niagara (6-2). Speaking of those Niagara netters, the Cougars will entertain the Badgers on Tuesday, October 1 in the next round of M-O play.

Coleman Sweeps Peshtigo

To Stay Atop M-O Circuit

Two of the M-O's best volleyball teams faced off Thursday as the visiting Bulldogs took a shot at the loop leading Cougars, only to get swept.

Peshtigo gave the Coleman netters a tough first game but the home team managed to absorb all that the talented Bulldogs threw at them and went on to win the match in three straight games 25-20. 25-13 and 25-20.

"They're tough," said Peshtigo head coach Lynn Tonn-Kostreva, whose team's only two league losses on the season have come at the hands of the Coleman squad. "They found our soft spot, which is in the middle, lot of short, quick sets for points. But I'm really proud of our girls. They left it on the floor. It would have been sweet to take Coleman on their home floor but tonight wasn't our night."

Leading the way for Peshtigo in defeat, Nicole Motkowski turned in 10 digs, 11 assists, two blocks, two kills and an ace; Maizie Reif had 16 digs, three kills and an ace while Carly Dietrich added 10 digs and three kills.

Lindsey Kerr had another solid night on the hardwood for Coleman, racking up 30 assists, seven digs, two blocks and three kills; Makenzie Sadowski had an ace, eight kills, three digs and an assist; Lily Cornelius finished with two aces, four kills, two blocks, an assist and two digs; Tori Bushmaker had 19 digs while Abby Bieber added 11 digs, a block and eight kills.

"We keep pushing from here," said Coleman head coach Samantha Stickney on how her team will approach the rest of the season, having knocked off one of its biggest challengers twice already. "We'll look at film from tonight and practice our plays over and over. But we've got some very good hitters on our team and they were playing smart tonight."

Rangers Survive Tigers

The Wausaukee volleyball team got off to a shaky start against Gillett Thursday at home but rebounded for the four-game win 20-25, 25-23, 25-11, 25-21.

Crysta Clark had a busy night for the victorious Rangers, turning in 10 aces, two kills and nine assists. Kaylor DeLaet had four aces, three kills, four blocks and 12 assists; Lauren Edlbeck finished with 11 kills, two aces, a block and an assist while Angel Meljan had three aces, two kills and two blocks.

For Gillett, Brianna Lemirande led the way with seven kills and three blocks; Jessica Anderson had three kills, 18 assists and an ace; Kara Brennan had six kills, three blocks and two aces; Taylor Kohls had eight kills while Marissa Sherman finished with four kills and 10 digs.

Suring Sweeps STAA

Calley VanBellinger collected 16 digs, a block, four kills and three aces as the Eagles overwhelmed the Cavalettes Thursday in three straight, 25-10, 25-18, 25-21.

Brooke Gauthier added an ace, three kills, two blocks and three digs; Faith Garczynski had three kills, four blocks and a dig; Breanna Tienor had a pair of aces, seven assists and 10 digs while teammate Mackenzie LaMarre had 10 digs and an ace.

Riley Schultz had 6 spikes and 6 digs for STAA, Alyssa Hornick 5 spikes and 9 assists, Molly Linczeski 7 digs and 2 spikes while Linsey Hannon chipped in with 5 digs and 2 assists.

Badgers Over Wildcats

Niagara and Lena went toe-to-toe in game one of Thursday's match with the host Badgers claiming the win at 25-22. Niagara cruised to the overall victory with the next two games of the evening also going their way, 25-10 and 25-16.

Shelby Borchardt finished with 36 digs, an ace and an assist; Brooklyn Wolosyn had 11 kills, three digs, four assists and two aces while Shanna Nordell chipped in eight kills, a dig, an assist and four aces.

For Lena, Melissa Bushmaker led the way with seven kills, two digs, an assist and an ace.

-Tuesday’s Results-

Brianna Lemirande tallied eight kills and a block for Gillett while teammate Jessica Anderson clocked 8 assists. Kara Brennan had seven kills and a block and Marissa Sherman had two kills, nine digs and three aces.

Bulldogs Sweep Suring

The visiting Suring Eagles made the Peshtigo gang work for it on Tuesday but the ever-improving Bulldogs kept their focus and prevailed in three games 25-15, 26-24, 25-19.

"We continue to play well together," said Peshtigo head coach Lynn Tonn-Kostreva. "The girls are covering on defense really well. Our serving continues to be a problem though."

Crivitz Steams

Vikki Neumann had a busy night for Crivitz as she came up with eight kills, three digs, an assist and three aces; Jen Kempka had 17 assists, an ace, five digs and three kills while Samara Olson turned in four kills, six digs and two aces.

Alyssa Hornick had 4 spikes and 2 assists for STAA, Riley Schultz 3 spikes and 2 blocks while Linsey Hannon and Gracyn Myers chipped in with 3 digs each.

Niagara Sweeps

The Niagara volleyball squad defended its home court Tuesday against a tough Wausaukee team, 27-25, 25-9, 25-20.

Shelby Borchardt didn't let much get past her as she collected 59 digs over three games to go along with her four kills and an assist; Brooklyn Wolosyn had four assists, four digs and six kills while Shanna Nordell had five kills, three digs and two assists.

For the Lady Rangers, Kaylor DeLaet led the way with 10 assists and a kill while Crysta Clark turned in six kills and five assists.
