Editor:

This letter is being written to express a concern about the annual festival (Historical Day) held on the 7th of this month instead of the last weekend.

Making such a drastic change of date is not a good idea, in my opinion. The Labor Day weekend is still vacation time for many. I could see evidence of this at the craft bazaar outside and inside the school. Very small attendance....and those who took the time to create and show their crafts were very disappointed at the low attendance of the public.

Also, a very important aspect was the extreme heat that day. By the time I walked the outside bazaar and entered the school I was wringing wet from perspiration.

In watching the parade I was disappointed to see only one high school band. Last year several bands participated. My compliments to the band and the girls with the flags. Very well done. Also enjoyed the beautiful horses.

Another item that is important to mention here is the fact that the band in the park started playing around 3 p.m. Last year, as well as other years, the park had almost continuous music by a band, which is what I look forward to.

We visited some friends nearby and when we left late that night, the band was still playing to a small crowd. Doesn’t the mature audience matter anymore? I suggest the band start playing at 1 p.m. and just end it earlier so the younger set do not drink and drive.

One other matter that deserves attention is the fact that not everyone attending the event lives in Wisconsin, allowing a short time of travel to Peshtigo. We happen to live in Illinois, requiring a five-hour drive one way.

Although, no doubt it was mentioned in your newspaper, not everyone was aware of the new date of Historical Day, which involves those who are planning the dates and times of class reunions, usually held during Historical Days. This requires additional travel at the end of the month to attend the class reunions.

My suggestion is to hold Historical Days the third weekend of September, set it in stone and publish the dates often so everyone is informed. The writer hopes that in the future I can look forward to more continuous music in the park and more marching bands it the parade.

Thank you for your attention to my suggestions and input.

To the Editor:

Autumn Winds

In the twilight of the autumn moon,

The nightingale bids goodbye,

For summer lies on its deathbed,

As the autumn winds start to cry.

Beneath the mighty oak,

The leaves blow free and wild,

A child catches one in the wind,

And places it in his secret file.

By a river of lost dreams and hopes,

A dreamer dreams away,

It seems the winds have taken him

Back to yesterday.

In the aftermath of summer’s end,

I walk a lonely path,

Maybe if I keep dreaming on,

The nightingale will come back.

Each season is born, and each season must pass,

You cannot stop time,

I once was young, long ago,

Now the autumn winds are mine.

Letter to Editor:

I would like to give a huge thank you to two people in the same line of work that own two different businesses. These two people, Dee Rynen and Monica Halverson, came together to help a horse. Two of my horses finished in the top 5 for the State of Wisconsin for the end of the year points and that qualified them for National Finals in Cloverdale Ind. held at C Bar C, five acres under one roof. It’s everything we worked so hard for all year.

On Sunday morning my horses were scheduled to have their feet done by Dee. I woke up and went out to the barn and one of my horses, Keg, was lame. Keg was not able to put any pressure on his leg at all. My heart sank and I cried. I knew at that moment he would not be making the trip to the nationals and leaving the driveway without him would be very sad.

Dee arrived at my farm and she hoof tested, flexed him, massaged him for several hours. We could not find anything so we assumed it was a tendon injury. Dee then called Monica Halverson and explained to her that Keg was leaving for National Finals in 9 days, and the next day Monica brought over her Theraplate for horses. She helped set it up and explained how to use it. After three times on the plate Dee returned on Wednesday morning and she was able to find an abscess. Dee drained the abscess and we treated the hoof and continued using the Theraplate three times a day.

This is truly an amazing piece of equipment! I can see a huge improvement in Keg everyday. Monica told me to stand on the plate with the horse during the treatments and I did. I have a knee that I had four surgeries on, ACL and meniscus. My knee feels great! I’m still not sure if Keg will be healed enough to go to Nationals. There is always another barrel race and we can always try another year. What is important is the horse.

Dee and Monica dropped everything and they were there to help this horse. The Theraplate is a plate that the horse walks onto and stands on for about 10 to 20 minutes. It helps improve overall health, eliminates pain and increases circulation. Without it we could not have found the abscess this quickly and there would be no chance for Keg making the trip. We now have a chance.

Thank you, Dee and Monica.

October’s Clergy Month

A pastor is a special friend,

Who’s always there for you.

When skies are bright and sunny,

Or when they’re gray and blue.

But do we every stop to ask,

How was your day today?

Then quietly sit and listen,

And encourage them on life’s way?

It sometimes is a lonely road

On which a pastor treads.

They have to keep in confidence

Some harmful thing that’s said.

They have to be a teacher,

A counselor, a friend,

A pastor, an evangelist,

A list that never ends.

They not only have their problems,

But they help you bear yours too.

By daily searching Scripture,

To encourage and bless you.

And then there are the many hours,

They spend in prayer for you.

Asking God for guidance,

And instruction to give you.

So daily pray for your dear pastor,

Their job is difficult, no doubt.

But someday up in glory

They’ll be greeted with a shout,

Welcome, Pastor......

Then they’ll hear God say, Well done.

Your rewards are great in Heaven,

For representing.... My Dear Son.
