Wausaukee Man Dies From Crash
Richard Stankowski, 34, Wausaukee, died Saturday morning, Oct. 5, from injuries received in a single vehicle crash on U.S. 141 in the Town of Abrams, Oconto County.
The Oconto County Sheriff Department reported the crash happened about 10 a.m. when the southbound vehicle driven by Stankowski slid sideways and in attempting to correct the vehicle spun around, left the highway and struck a large direction sign south of County E.
Stankowski and a female passenger were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated. They were both taken to a Green Bay hospital where Stankowski was pronounced dead. His female passenger from Wausaukee sustained injuries which were described as non-life threatening.
His 1992 Oldsmobile Royal four door sedan had to be towed from the scene. It received extensive damage to rear, middle and front driver side.
It was the fourth traffic fatality in Oconto County and remains under investigation by the sheriff department. Also responding to the scene were the County Rescue Squad and Abrams Fire Department.
