Coleman Equestrian Team To Compete at State Oct. 19-20
The Coleman Equestrian Team (CET) which is a district 16 division B member of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Horsemanship Association (WIHA) competed at their district show on Oct. 5-6 in Seymour. Their win there qualified them for state competition Oct. 19-20 in Jefferson.
The riders and their horses can compete in up to six events each with a team total of 42 events. The events are western showmanship, huntseat showmanship, saddleseat showmanship, discipline rail, huntseat equitation, huntseat bareback equitation, hunter hack, saddleseat equitation, saddleseat bareback equitation, trail, western horsemanship, western bareback horsemanship, reinsmanship, barrels, poles, keyhole, speed and action, and two - person relay.
WIHA competitions are a great learning experience for those involved. With different disciplines showcased it allows horse and rider to develop and perform utilizing their versatility and strong partnership. Being part if the equestrian team is not a sport of short duration, these riders and their horses work year round to develop the skills needed to show.
This year the Coleman team concentrated on the basics, including control, transitions, ring etiquette,and executing a clean pattern. The most important focus was on the safety of each rider and equine partner. As a team they expanded their knowledge of equine nutrition, tack and proper fitting, leg wrapping, banding and braiding, flexing and the importance of core strength.
The coaches Lindsey Koenig and Kasandra Kostreva stated as the first year of coaching is ending they are proud of the hard work and dedication shown by members. It has been an honor to watch their growth, development, integrity, and responsibility and are deeply grateful to the parents for their help, support and dedication. District coach is Julia Lepinski who always got an answer when needed. The community was also a big supporter of the team through fundraising.
The Coleman Equestrian team is open to students in grades 6 - 12.
