Bhatoya Paces Peshtigo Runners At Kimberly; Sectionals On October 26
An 11th place finish by senior Aaron Bhatoya sparked Peshtigo to 310 points and 10th at the 17-team Seymour boys cross-country invitational Thursday.
Kimberly won the meet with a score of 60 followed by Freedom 72, Neenah 78, Little Chute 90, Appleton North 120, Xavier 163, Oshkosh North 212, Shawano 238, Seymour 279, Peshtigo 310, New London 323, Appleton West 330, Kaukauna 352, Menasha 379, West DePere 396, Clintonville 463 and Hortonville 517.
After missing the last two races, Peshtigo sophomore Tyler Nault ran 18:09 for 50th place, Eddie Jornlin 73rd 18:59, Bryce Trimberger 79th 19:11 and Hunter Madden 97th 20:11.
Tanner Daines of Appleton North won the meet in 16:00 followed by Joe VanGrinsver of Little Chute 16:10 and Sam Hinz of Freedom 16:11.
The boys ran very well at Seymour, finishing 10th. Aaron Bhatoya had a great run, finishing behind two Freedom runners and a runner from Little Chute. The remainder of the competitors ahead of Aaron run in Division I. Aaron has continued to lower his first mile time and has run strongly throughout the remainder of the race, Peshtigo coach Jim Stillman said. Tyler Nault has battled foot pain for a couple of weeks now and we're just hoping to get him ready for the Sectional meet at Waupaca. Eddie Jornlin and Bryce Trimberger ran as well they have all season and seem to be peaking at just the right time. Hunter Madden ran just over 20 minutes and has lowered his 5K time by 3:00 over the past three weeks. Hunter came into the season late, but has given the boys a fifth runner so they can compete as a team.
The Peshtigo girls finished 13th out of 16 teams with 329 points. Appleton North was first at 41 followed by Kimberly 69 and Neenah 107.
Freshman Mariah McDonough topped the Bulldog runners with a 37th place time of 16:27, Anna Madsen 58th 17:18, Carlee Mylener 63rd 17:28, Rebekah Sokol 75th 17:52, Samantha Rauch 96th 18:48, Saige Ruleau 102nd 19:23 and Claire Stuart 106th 20:25.
Sarah Richardson of Kimberly was first at 14:55 followed by Lauren Farina of Appleton North 14:57 and McKenzie Carper of Kimberly 15:06.
For the girls, Mariah McDonough has stepped up and raced boldly over the past three meets. As a freshman, Mariah has overcome her first year varsity jitters and has really proven to be a surprise. Saige Ruleau has yet to overcome her physical difficulties, but we're hoping that by Sectional time, she'll be close to where we have expected her to run this season. The remainder of the girls have run good races, but we face an uphill challenge in our sectional on the girls' side and the Lady Bulldogs will have to run their best race to compete beyond Waupaca, Stillman added.
The Peshtigo runners will now be idle until the WIAA sectional run at Waupaca on Saturday, October 26. The Bulldogs will be joined by Clintonville, Colby/Abbotsford, Fox Valley Lutheran,Freedom, Lakeland, Marinette, Medford, Mosinee, New London, Northland Pines, Oconto Falls, Seymour, Tomahawk, Waupaca and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
The WIAA state meet is scheduled for Saturday, November 2 at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
