Badger Nature Trail Bridge Is Replaced
Issue Date: October 30, 2013
Replacement of the bridges in the nature trails of Badger Park in Peshtigo continue to be a work in progress. But progress was seen this week when the Citys Park and Recreation Director David Zahn announced the first of four planned bridge reconstructions was complete.
According to Zahn, all four former bridges had been torn down out of safety concerns, a process that began last year. Through the work of Park and Rec Committee Chairman Cathi Malke, sturdier planking was donated by Larry Sterzing, owner of Sterzing Sawmill in Grover.
Zahn added the Park staff repurposed a couple of long, thick poles to serve as the shore foundations and the spans of the new bridge so that the entire structure is now elevated above the water line. The bridge decking and ramped approaches were the last items to installed. The new bridge spans 50 feet over a swampy area in the northwest corner of the walking/ nature trails.
