James J. Noasconi
James John Noasconi, 86, of Stephenson, Mi. passed away at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Born June 24, 1927 in Wakefield, Mi. to the late James and Louisa (Fenoglio) Novascone, he graduated from Wakefield High School in 1945. He served in the United States Navy from May, 1945 until he was honorably discharged in July of 1946. He married LaVerne Kerkela on Aug. 18, 1956 in Republic Mi. and they made their home in Bessmer, Mi. before relocating to Stephenson in 1971.
He was employed by the Michigan DNR as an Area Fire Supervisor for 37 years until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed sports, the outdoors, was a Detroit Lions and Tigers fan, took great pride in attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and most recently watching his grandson, Steve coach high school football. He was a member of the Stephenson Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion Post 43 and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 43.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, LaVerne; children, Doreen (Roger) Grinsteiner and Steve (Liz), both of Stephenson, Jane Noasconi-Schuster, of Whitewater, and Diana Noasconi-Rhodes (Tucker), of Seattle, Wa.; a sister, Jean Sawaski, of Wakefield, Mi.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 25 at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home from 11a.m. until time of Military Rites beginning at noon, followed by a Memorial Service. Deacon Tom Rivard will officiate. A memorial fund has been established in his name for the Stephenson Volunteer Fire Department and Mid County Rescue Squad.
