Leonard B. Schomer
Leonard Byron "Lenny" Schomer, 95, passed away at his daughter 's home in Vero Beach, Fla. on Sunday, Nov. 17.
Born July 19, 1918, in Menominee to Louise Amy (Evenson) and Ervin Joseph Schomer, he graduated from Menominee High School in 1936. He served briefly in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Doris Lillian Waugus on July 27, 1943 and for 43 years was a sailor on the Great Lakes working for U.S. Steel. He retired as a captain in 1979. The couple moved to Vero Beach, Fla. in 1971.
He was an avid bowler and enjoyed an occasional game of golf. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, good nature, and generous spirit.
He is survived by three daughters, Diana (Jimmy) Johnson, of Jacksonville, Fla., Linda (Thomas) King, of Menominee, and Julie (Douglas) Cleland, of Vero Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; three sisters and his wife, Doris, who passed in 1991.
