Sharon L. Huntley

Sharon L. Huntley, 52, passed away Nov. 27 with her husband and family by her side.

Born Dec. 23, 1961 to Bill and JoAnn (Lowrey) Good in Hobbs, N.M., she spent her childhood there and then moved to Lubbock, Tex. There she married Paul Cobb and had two sons, Trey Owen and Chad Michael. They divorced and she then moved to Menominee, Mi. and met William Huntley via the internet and they were married Aug. 31, 2001 in Menominee. The couple enjoyed traveling, camping in their motorhome, a yearly cruise and were just happy spending time together at home.

Her hobbies were clothing and shoes. She was a master of resale shopping, searching and spending hours to find special pieces and had a knack for assembling those pieces into great outfits. When they traveled, she researched and mapped out resale shops to explore.

She went to school later in life, graduating in 1993, from Texas Tech with an Elementary Teaching Degree. She taught school in Texas until her move to Menominee. She also received a Master's Degree in Adaptive Education from St. Norberts College in DePere.

Her job history included Menominee County Juvenile Officer, of which one of the juveniles she assisted, Bobbie Jo, they considered as a daughter and were godparents to her children. She was a Certified Mediator and was also an Adjunct Professor for UW Green Bay helping many UW students gain world experience in the world of Juvenile Justice. She then moved from the Court System to a new career as director of Business Development for Goodwill Industries, spent a couple of years there and then was recruited by Bay Area Medical Center as a Marketing Specialist. Two years later she was recruited by the UW-Marinette as Director of Continuing Education, developing many programs. This also gave her a new direction developing programming to train Naval Engineers/Architects to build naval ships and specifically, Litoral Combat Ships. Her daily ability to work was interrupted by her November 2011 diagnosis of lung cancer followed by a major surgery, chemo, and radiation. She then put together a lung cancer awareness seminar at UW Marinette sponsored by Bay Area Medical Center. She continued in the shipbuilding direction and was elected Vice chairperson for the Naval Shipbuilding Research Project (NSRP) based in Annapolis, Md., involving computer work which could be done from home.

She was a natural born mentor, had a knack for inspiring people to do better, believed it was important to use God given talents and was highly skilled and successful in developing programs whether an elementary reading program or training Naval Engineers to build better ships. She was a member of the Marinette Elks and the Kiwanis.

She will be missed by her husband, William; her mother, JoAnn and Billy Cramer, of Larue, Tex.; two sons, Trey Owen Cobb and Chad Michael Cobb, both of Lubbock, Tex. and a sister, LeAnn Cecil, of Menominee;

She was preceded in death by her father, Bill.

Friends may call on Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 2 p.m. until time of funeral services at 5 p.m. at Thielen Funeral Home, Marinette, with Rev. Keith Kolstad officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the lungcanceralliance.org.
