To the Editor:

The loss of A Loved One, Two Loved Ones

On Sunday, April 28, 2013, my cousin lost someone who was very dear to him. We believe his girlfriend of eight years lost her life to a drug called Adderall, and so did he.

My cousin and his girlfriend would stay with me on weekends when they came to visit the city. He would pull the weeds in my garden. He put in my new sump pump, and put my new grill together. He talked baby talk to my 100 pound black lab. He loves the outdoors, and is a hard worker. He loves kids. He said that he so looks forward to the day one of his own children tell him that they are going to have a “little one.” He took my children downtown and other places, along with his own children, when they came to visit. I trusted my cousin with my children then, and I would still trust him with my children today. He has a very kind heart. He loved his girlfriend, and still does. They argued many times in eight years. There was a pattern: They would argue, his girlfriend would throw him out, then, she would ask him to come back. Brent Kaempf loved Trish Waschbisch, and that’s why he would always go back. Breaking up for them, was not a motive for a murder, but a regular pattern in their eight year history.

Brent was prescribed Adderall because , as he said, “I started a new job at Marinette Marine as an electrical planner, and had a lot to learn about the way they did things on the computer. I needed to concentrate. I have had problems with this my whole life. I have problems with reading comprehension.” He told me that he was taking Adderall, for about a month. On Friday, April 26, Brent looked for his Adderall. “ I didn’t like leaving them sit around because of all the kids that came over to the house,” Brent said. He couldn’t find Adderall, so he didn’t take it.

The following statement was taken from The Urban Dictionary: (“As the body begins to go through withdrawal, one can easily start to become furious and enraged. Everything in life is seen as a complete burden. Violent thoughts swarm the user’s mind and if the rage is severe enough, the destructive thoughts can easily morph into brutal action”*). That evening Brent snapped. He was charged with Trish’s death. There is case after case, after case, written about the violent effects of this drug.

We, his family, relatives, and friends, who know Brent, believe this horrible incident was the result of the effects of Adderall. I have been to see him, and I can tell you that he is the same Brent now, that I have known all my life. He is still kind at heart and caring. He misses Trish. No one is more devastated than he.

I know Trish has helped a lot of people, as advocate for domestic violence. People who knew her are very hurt and angry right now. They have a right to be, but Brent is not the monster that some people want him to be, just because they are hurt and angry. This could have happened to YOUR son, YOUR brother, YOUR father, or anyone in your family for that matter. What happened to Trish is absolutely tragic, but Brent loved Trish and Trish loved Brent, and do you know who the first person would be, trying to help Brent, if she were here?

We never thought this could happen to anyone in our family. Please be careful with medications, even when prescribed by a doctor.

Editor:

So glad to see that the P-Times has returned the “Funnies” to the editorial page. That cartoonist, ” Gilbert” from Niagara was the funniest yet! That joke about Obama care being compared to a Ford F-150 was too funny! The sad part is that if you don’t want a Ford F-150 with all the bells and whistles you’re still being FORCED to buy one anyway! You see, if you are a 60-year-old male you most likely don’t need maternity insurance, prenatal care, menopause insurance, you’re not going to be getting an abortion, all of which you’re being forced to buy. If you’re not an alcoholic you don’t need rehab care, same goes for illicit drug use, but you are still going to be forced to buy it. After all, someone has to pay for the care of the “unwilling” as well as all those “Illegals” and that someone is YOU, under Obama Care, or should I say “The Affordable Care Act” as the liberals have reverted back to calling it now that it’s been shown to be a 1.3 trillion dollar mistake.

Let’s face it, if it walks like a turkey and gobbles (tax dollars) like a turkey then it’s probably a turkey! A very expensive turkey! Does Mr. Engel know that for less than half of what the affordable care act cost, AKA Obama care, we could have bought every uninsured person in America insurance, and still had enough tax money left over to secure our borders rather then provide Illegals with free health care, the same health care that We The People are being forced to pay for? No, America, it’s not all that funny, the joke’s on us.

Steve Dufek,

Beaver
