Agnes A. Gilles
Agnes Ann Gilles, 85, resident of The Meadowlands, Oconto Falls, formerly of Lena passed away Friday, Dec. 13 with family by her side.
Born Sept. 16, 1928 to Francis Gilles, Sr. and Ann (Maloney) Gilles in Lena, the youngest of six children, at the age of three, her mother died leaving her father with six children. A few years later her father married Susan Lisowe and she eventually became the big sister of four more brothers. She was a loyal and supportive sister, aunt and friend, always there for major life events. She rarely missed a graduation, wedding or funeral, making the trip home whenever she was needed. She loved to travel, enjoyed crafts and created decorated cakes for family and friends for special occasions. She graduated from Mount Sinai School of Nursing, Milwaukee in July of 1947 and trained as a nurse anesthetist at Minneapolis School of Anesthesia. She worked in Oregon before moving to Texas where she served as a nurse anesthetist at St. Joseph Hospital of Fort Worth until her retirement.
She is survived by her brothers, Merne and Richard (Shirley), both of Lena; Mark June, Sanford, NC; Leo (Rosalyn), Oconto; sister-in-law, Geri Gilles and Clayton Alsteen, Lena and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis, Sr. and Ann Gilles; step-mother, Susan (Lisowe) Gilles; a sister, Mary Gilles; brothers, John, Francis, Joseph and Robert Gilles; sisters-in-law, May, Claire, Betty and Sis Gilles; a friend, Polly Sizemore; a niece, Diane Uphill and nephews, Robert and Ray Gilles.
Relatives and friends may call at St. Anne Catholic Church in Lena on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 9 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. with Father Celestine Byekwaso officiating. Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
