Goodman Plant Permit Issued
Issue Date: December 26, 2013
Goodman--The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced Friday, Dec. 20, its intent to issue a new pollutant discharge elimination system permit to Goodman Veneer and Lumber, 200 C Ave., Goodman.
The firm produces hardwood lumber and veneer. It sprays stockpiled hardwood logs in order to maintain value by preventing splitting and staining prior to processing. Logs are sprayed each year from April into October when air temperature is above freezing. Spray water not absorbed by the logs or surrounding ground, or evaporated, runs off and flows through a settling area, then piped to an open pit from which there is an underground conduit to Chemical Creek. Estimated spray water may reach 0.66 million gallons daily. Wastewaters from other processes inside the mill are discharged to the Goodman Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Persons wishing to comment or object to the proposed permit may write the DNR permit drafter Nanette E. Jameson, DNR, 2984 Shawano Ave., Green Bay, WI 54313-6727 or phone 920-662-5174.
The draft permit, information, fact sheet and permit application are available for public inspection at the DNR office in Peshtigo, phone 715-582-5013.
