Howard J. Murphy
Howard James Murphy, 81, of Peshtigo passed away Dec. 31 at Bay Area Medical Center.
Born Nov. 19, 1932, son of the late Howard J. and Mabel (Demmith) Murphy, he served in the U.S. Army. On Feb. 11, 1956, he married the former Carol Finger at Christ Lutheran Church in Peshtigo. He farmed and was employed at Badger Pulp Paper Mill, retiring from Badger in 1994 and from farming in 1997.
An avid sports fan of the Peshtigo High School Bulldogs, Wisconsin Badgers and the Packers, he enjoyed all sporting events. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by, his wife Carol; two sons, Jim (Danette) Murphy, of Peshtigo and Mike Murphy, of Porterfield; two daughters, Jean Wendlandt, of Woodbury, Minn. and Shirley (Allen) Kiley, of DePere; two sisters, Loretta (Eugene) Brabant and Pat Lindgren; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patti L. Fritz on Aug. 25, 1997 and a sister, Sally Andersen.
Visitation was held on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peshtigo from 9 a.m. until time of services at noon with Rev. David Murphy officiating. Burial will be in the Spring in Riverside Cemetery, Peshtigo. Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
