Ruth E. Westberg
Ruth Elizabeth Westberg, 81, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, at Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc.
Born in Manitowoc on Dec. 27, 1932, daughter of the late Charles A. and Julia (Carbon) Cizek, she attended Manitowoc Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951. She graduated Cum Laude from Lawrence College Conservatory of Music in 1955 and taught in Menominee, Mi., Manitowoc County Teachers College and Two Rivers Public Schools. She also did graduate work at Silver Lake College. She married John R. Westberg of Marinette in 1957 and they resided in Manitowoc after he graduated from UW-Stout in Menomonee. He preceded her in death April 5, 2009.
She served as president of Sigma Alpha Iota, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra board, the Community Concerts Association board, Manitowoc County Retired Educators Association, and chapters CD and EF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manitowoc. She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing bridge, traveling and their special Labradors and cats.
She is survived by her children, David J. Westberg,of Charleston, S.C., Karen (Bob) Bryant, Cleveland, Wi.; two grandsons; a granddaughter; special friend, Glenn Kerchefske, Sheboygan; two nephews,Theodore Sweeney, Austin, Tx, and Jeff Sweeney, Rhinelander; first cousin, Liz Landig, Neenah and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Ira and Hester Westberg; husband, John and a sister and brother-in-law, Edith (Leon) Sweeney.
Relatives and friends called at First Presbyterian Church in Manitowoc Saturday, Jan. 4 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Matthew Sauer officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Manitowoc County Humane Society, the Capitol Civic Center or First Presbyterian Church in her name. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc assisted the family with arrangements.
