Robert L. Nelson
Robert L. Nelson, 83, of Marinette passed away on Saturday, Feb. 8 at home.
Born March 16, 1930, with his twin brother, Roland, to the late Oscar and Beatrice (Harris) Nelson in Oconto, he graduated from Peshtigo High School in 1948, where he played basketball and football. After graduation, he operated Nelson Standard Service and then worked at George Menors Service Station. He left there to join the Marinette Police Department for 10 years and then retired from Giddings and Lewis in Menominee. On July 30, 1949, he married Lorraine Baribeau at St. Josephs Church, in Marinette. He enjoyed his retirement in Texas where he played shuffleboard.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lorraine; two sons, Wayne (Vanessa) Nelson, of Bellefontaine, Oh. and David (Barbara) Nelson, of Peshtigo; three daughters, Nancy Benchley, of Menominee, Linda (Ken) OLeary, of Valders and Donna (Mark) Stanke, of Marinette; a half-brother, Johnny (Linda) Behnke; a brother in law, Francis Baribeau; a sister-in-law, Florence Beland; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Louie Behnke; a brother, Roland Nelson; a sister, Doris McBride; a half-brother, Dale; a step-brother, Laverne Behnke; a step sister, Winnie Thompson and sister-in-law, Eve Baribeau.
Friends may call at the Thielen Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon with Deacon Vince Beckley officiating.
