Vernon R. Sauld
Vernon R. Sauld, 81, of Quinnesec, Mi., passed away Sunday, Feb. 9 at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford, MI.
Born in Pembine on Oct. 21, 1932, the son of the late Norman and Iola (Wilson) Sauld, he graduated from Pembine High School in 1950 where he participated in football, basketball, baseball, softball and track. After graduation, he went to Chicago to work until he was drafted into the United States Army and served for two years from 1952 to 1954, which included one year in Korea. After an honorable discharge, he spent time with his parents before moving to Milwaukee to work at Briggs and Stratton for over 30 years, retiring in 1986. He then returned to Quinnesec. He married Ethel Lundamo on June 24, 1972 in Pembine and she preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2008.
He is survived by a daughter, Peggy Olsen; a son, Jim Johnson; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly (Bob) Erickson; sisters-in-law, Kate (Ernest) Sauld, of Pembine, Sue (Andrew) Sauld, of Abbotsford and Helen (Eugene) Sauld, of Saginaw, Tx.; many nieces; nephews; great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward, Ernest, Russel, Eugene, Andrew and Loren Sauld and a sister, Norma Tannia.
Visitation was held on Thursday, Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway. Rev. Pastor James Danielson, of Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway presided, followed by Interment at Quinnesec Cemetery.
