High Seeds For Area Girls Basketball Teams

A trio of TIMESland girls basketball teams earned top seeds following successful seasons. In Division 3, the Oconto Falls Panthers took home the number one spot, Gillett was a surprising top selection in D-4 and the talented Goodman-Pembine Patriots were voted the number one seed in D-5.
WIAA girls tournament action will begin on Tuesday, March 4 with the quarterfinals followed by the semifinals on Friday, March 7 and finals March 8. The sectional tournament is slated for March 13 and 15 with the state meet at the Resch Center in Green Bay March 20-22.
Coming off a subpar campaign, the Marinette (3-17) picked up a 9th seed and will head to Menasha (8) on opening night in D-2. The winner moves on against top seed Notre Dame.
In Division 3, Oconto Falls drew a first round bye and will entertain the winner of Clintonville (5) and Wittenberg-Birnamwood (4). Peshtigo was voted number three and hosts Tomahawk on March 4. The winner heads to Northland Pines (2) for the semifinals.
Three area teams will take part in the D-4 meet, highlighted by a number two seed for Oconto of the Packerland Conference. The Blue Devils (18-3) will await the Spencer (10) at Stratford (7) survivor.
Coleman (4) plays host to Stevens Point Pacelli while Crivitz (12) travels to Auburndale (5). The winners will play at the highest seed on March 7.
Seven teams will compete in the D-5 regional. In the upper half of the tourney, Goodman-Pembine was voted the top seed and will host the Niagara (5) at Phelps (4) winner on March 7. Wausaukee (7) heads to Suring (2) in another semifinal clash.
The bottom half of the bracket finds Gillett the top seed and awaits the winner of Sevastopol (5) at Lena (4). Meanwhile STAA (6) takes the hike to NEW Lutheran (3) with that winner taking on Oneida Nation (2).
