Dorothy M. Johnston
Dorothy M. Johnston, 90, of Hwy. 64, Marinette, passed away Friday morning, Feb. 28 at her home. The last surviving member of her family, she was born Feb. 7, 1924 in Marinette to Fred J. Edwin and his wife, Iva (Yeager) Edwin.
She was a 1942 graduate of Marinette High School and resided in the area most of her life. After graduation she moved to Rockford, Ill., living with her brother and sister-in-law for a short time. She took a job at the Illinois Bell Telephone Co., later transferring to the Marinette Telephone Co. where she worked until 1947.
In November of 1947, she married Charles V. Johnston and together they had six children, Ellen Marie (Ken) Vaughn, Charles F. (Jackie) Johnston, Jr., Margaret Vieth (Ron Rosner), Fred E. (Patricia) Johnston, Carol J. (Tom) Strojny and Betty Jane (Raymond) Nelson. She is further survived by 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
She and her husband spent their winters in Mission, Tex. for several years. She was a member of Holy Family Parish the Marinette Senior Center and volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Store for several years. She was a past member of the Marinette VFW Auxiliary. She loved working with her children and in later years, her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and making arts and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; three sisters, Doris Yagel, Elaine Sisson and Lorraine Sullivan; and three brothers, Maurice, Franklin and Fred Edwin, Jr.
A Funeral Mass was offered at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, at Holy Family Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Taylor Street by Rev. Joseph Dorner. Burial was in Forest Home Cemetery.
Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home assisted the family.
