Dorothy Rose (Garrigan) Behnke Birk, 88, of Kimberly, formerly of Stockbridge, passed away Sunday, March 23 at Oakridge Gardens in Menasha.
Born Jan. 3, 1926 in Highland, Ill., daughter of the late Gervas "Nubs" & Caroline "Kelly" (Geigel) Garrigan, her family moved to Muskegan, Mi. before settling in Wisconsin. She graduated from Lena High School and attended Silver Lake College, where she earned a degree in Nursing. She married the love of her life, Donald Behnke and he preceded her in death in August of 1963. She then married Charles Birk in 1968 and he preceded her in death in October of 1979. She worked at the Calumet Memorial Hospital in Chilton until her retirement in 1988 and then enjoyed her time.
A member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge she was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed crossword puzzles, word searches and watching A&E. A Packer and Badger fan, she also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the most recent addition, a great-grandson, Brody.
Survivors include her children, Carole (Doug) Leith and Tom (Marilyn) Behnke; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Mike (Peggy) Garrigan and Jerry (Darlene) Garrigan; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; an infant son, Jerry Joseph Behnke and two sisters, Mary Jane (Robert) Behling and Noreen (Clyde) Hendricks.
Friends may call at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, followed by funeral services at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Michael Betley will officiate with burial in the Parish Cemetery following the service. Wieting Family Funeral Home in Chilton is assisting the family with arrangements.
