Pearl C. Schwanz, 96, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Sunday, March 30, at the Luther Home in Marinette.
Born Jan. 21, 1918 to John and Hattie (Uecke) Hansen in Duluth, Minn., the family moved to Menominee when she was a young girl and graduated from Menominee High School in 1935. On April 14, 1943, she married William Schwanz at Central Lutheran in Menominee and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1991. She worked in the retail offices as a clerk at Rydahl's Grocery, Tempo and Montgomery Ward Department Stores.
She enjoyed watching her son and grandchildren's sports and academic events and was a Green Bay Packer and Chicago Cubs Fan, hoping to live long enough to see the Cubs win a World Series. A member of Central Lutheran Church, she was a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Women of the Church group, Central Lutheran Quilters group and enjoyed volunteering at the Menominee County Historical Museum.
She is survived by a son, William (Jill) Schwanz, of Menominee, Mi.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Agnes (Milton) Brown, Margaret (John) Bertrand and Florence (Grant) Berggren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 4 at noon till time of services at 1:30 p.m. at the Luther Home, 831 Pine Beach Road, Marinette. Rev. Kenneth Michaelis will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee. In lieu of flowers, the family asks person to do an act of kindness towards someone in her memory. Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
