Fred Jaeger, Jr.
Issue Date: April 9, 2014
Fred Fritz Jaeger, Jr. passed away on April 3rd, 2014 after a full life of 88 years.
Born in 1926, Fritz Jaeger lived a life of no regrets. He will always be remembered for his warm and generous demeanor. In his family, business, and community, he leaves behind a legacy of love and caring.
Fritz is survived by his wife Jean Jaeger and his children and their families: Barbara (Wayne) Kopish and children Brian, Betsey (Randy) Johnson, and Tori; Fritz III (Marybeth) and children Fritz IV (Suzie), Amanda (Chad) Keuseman, and Aaron; Lori (Ryan) Hmielewski and children Scott (Linda), Kristin (Peter) Kolaszwski, and Jeff (Mariah); Penny (Steve) Sanders and daughter Lindsay; and Betsey Jaeger.
Fritz Jaeger, Jr., was born in 1926 to Pauline Polly and Fred Jaeger, Sr., in Marinette, WI. He graduated high school, and from 1943 to 1946, he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned to attend the University of Wisconsin at Madison and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. It was during his junior year in college that Fritz met his bride-to-be, Jean Goessling. They were to be married in October of 1950; however, Fritz was called upon by his country once more to serve during the Korean Conflict. Their wedding was moved up to September of 1950. Jean moved to Fritzs hometown of Marinette to be adopted by the Jaeger Family while Fritz went to war for two years. Their eldest daughter, Barbara, was born while Fritz was away. She was 7 months old when Fritz returned to Marinette in the fall of 1952. Fritz and Jean chose to stay in the Marinette area and play part in the growth and prosperity of their community and the family business, The Aerial Company. They had 5 children and were very active in the support of the Marinette School System. Fritz was an active board member for the Marinette Chamber of Commerce; he served for 10 years on the Farmers and Merchants Bank Board of Directors, and for 6 years on the National Board of BBSI (Beauty and Barber Supply Institute.). Fritz was instrumental in bringing the YMCA organization to the Marinette/Menominee area. He served as the first Charter President of the YMCA. He also served as the Chairman of the River City Recreation Task Group, which brought about the tennis and ice domes in Marinette and the community pool facility at the University of Wisconsin, Marinette.
Fritz Jaeger is probably best known in our community for his business, The Aerial Company. Fritz Jaeger, Jr. served as President of Aerial from 1954 to 1993. He continued as a member of the Aerial Board of Directors after he retired in 1993. Fritz served many roles during his life and career: engineer, soldier, student, administrator, manager and sales person; but those who knew him valued him most as a teacher and mentor. Education was very important to Fritz. Anyone who knew Fritz knew him to be a great story teller. He always had a story to share that would inspire and teach, and he treated everyone he met with the same regard like family. Today is a sad day for so many. Fritz will be greatly missed.
Fritz was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Polly, his sister Betty (Palmer) Gilbertson, brother Robert, and infant sister Fredericka.
Final arrangements are being made by Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home. Friends may call at Pioneer Presbyterian Church on Monday, April 7 from 11:00am to 1:00pm, with services commencing at 1:00pm. It was Fritzs wish that all memorial funds be directed to the M&M YMCA.
