Grace Lutheran Church Hosts Celtic Service
Grace Lutheran Church located at 716 Henriette Ave., in Crivitz and members of the Lutheran Ceili Orchestra will host a Celtic Service on Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at the church, featuring traditional hymns and tunes from the Celtic lands played on authentic Celtic instruments including Uilleann bagpipes, tinwhistle, fiddle, bodhran, and more. The faith of the ancient Celtic Christians will be experienced through their verses, prayers, traditions and legends set to a visual backdrop of the scenery of Ireland and Scotland.
The Lutheran Ceili Orchestra is a traveling contingent of Christian musicians from central and southeastern Wisconsin that play authentic Celtic instruments and have appeared at churches and public venues across the country. Their signature sound pairs Christian hymns with traditional tunes from Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales and features bagpipes, tinwhistle, fiddle, bouzouki, accordion, bodhran and more.
The spokesperson for the concert is Joey Schumann, a family practice physician from Appleton who is also a touring Celtic instrumentalist. He has been a repeated featured performer at Carnegie Hall in New York City, and has toured with the Tim Janic Ensemble. He recorded music for film soundtracks, and played with Loreena McKennitt, Sarah McLachlan, and Sir James Galway. Schumann has a passion for research on the ancient Celtic Church and has developed a series of Celtic liturgies called The Celtic Services. The services are designed to pair the spoken and written word of the ancient Celtic Christians with the music of The Lutheran Ceili Orchestra and tell the stories of brave believers that carried the torch of faith through a land and time that were both beautiful and dangerous.
