Issue Date: April 24, 2014

Pembine—Date for the annual spring clean up, three donations and date for the 2015 annual meeting were among items of business acted upon at the annual meeting of electors of the Town of Pembine held Tuesday, April 1, with only one citizen in attendance. Also in attendance were Board members Chairman Louis Linsmeyer, Supervisors John Schutte and Vincent Czahor and Clerk/Treasurer Sheri Stepien.

Corrected was a portion of the 2013 annual electors meeting to show that Czahor conducted the meeting .

The annual Spring Clean Up Week was approved for June 2-7 on motion of John Schutte, seconded by Dave Johnson. The new system that was used last year will be used again this year as it has proved to make the experience more effective for everyone involved. Residents will be required to get a ticket/voucher. The resident will give the ticket to the attendant at GAD and the scale fee will be covered by the town. More information will be posted at regular meeting posting sites.

Three donations totaling $325 was approved on motion of Sheri Stepien, seconded by Dave Johnson. They are $100 to each to Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine Youth Baseball, Cub Scout Pack 4072 to be used for the Annual Halloween party and Faith Community Teen Night and $25 to the annual 5K Run and Walk.

Various reports were also provided. They were building permit by Bob Grandaw, Permit Administrator was given by Clerk/Treasurer Stepien. The number of the permits issued had increased from 22 issued in 2012 to 28 issued in 2013, up 22%. The dollar value from was $111,000 in 2012 to $630,000 in 2013, an increase of 567%. It was noted there were no new residences built in 2012 or 2013.

Chairman Louis Linsmeyer gave an annual report showing that approximately 1.5 miles of town roads were crack sealed. Sauld Street and Willis Avenue were resurfaced with hot mix asphalt by Northeast Asphalt. Shoulder work was done by the town crew. A new culvert was put in on Dixon Lane and ditching and a culvert were put in on Crain Lane.

Also a new sidewalk was put in on the north side of Minnie Street by Shad Brown Excavating. All prep work and finish work was done by the town crew. Extensive brushing and reshaping was done on Merlin Road. Brushing was also completed on E. Cataline Road, Belgian Lake Road, Holmes Junction Road and a portion of Cemetery Road from Steele Road to Kess Lane. Brookwood Lane was graveled and reshaped. A pole saw was purchased and has proved to be a great help. The end loader was hauled to Aring Equipment in Green Bay for transmission problems with the result being a bad computer.

Linsmeyer expressed appreciation to all who worked hard to make the community picnic a huge success, Forward Financial Credit Union, the horse pullers and all involved in organizing and getting prizes along with all who donated the prizes.

He expressed a special thanks to the town board for their cooperation and the help. Along with a special thanks to Clerk/Treasurer Stepien for her help as well and the town’s good, dependable town work force.

Clerk/Treasurer Stepien reported the centennial committee is meeting the second and fourth Thursdays for planning the town’s centennial celebration which will be held the first weekend in August. Orders are being taken for the centennial book and residents are encouraged to reserve their copy. Book sponsorships have exceeded $7500 to help with the cost of the centennial book.

She further reported that businesses have agreed to sponsor events . They are Forward Financial Credit Union, Lumberjack Show; Specialty Granules, Fireworks Display; Four Season Island Resort, Bounce Houses and Bank North, Climbing Wall.

Continuing she reported that Centennial T-shirts are on sale at the Pembine Food Depot. Each ticket is $10 and only 1000 tickets will be sold.

Stepien reported the celebration will be a three day event with a street dance scheduled for Friday night. Saturday will be all the usual activities of the annual community picnic, including horse pullers, crafters, food, beverages, bingo, live music, 5K run/walk, raffles. Additional activities planned for Saturday include a Great Lakes Lumberjack Show, old cars and tractor display, an all class reunion with school tours, old pictures and historical display, many children’s activities and a fireworks display to close the evening. Sunday will begin with a pancake breakfast, a parade and a closing ceremony. Many volunteers will be needed to make the event a huge success.
