Gene Leroy Weed, 71, passed away at his home in Grover on Sunday, April 20.
Born Feb. 8, 1943, son of Asa and Orlene (Joy) Weed, he graduated from Marinette High School in 1961. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam and on March 9, 1968, married the former Carolyn Johnson. He retired from Graetz Manufacturing where he was employed for 44 years.
A farrier for over 40 years, he helped many horses recover from hoof problems to become champions. He trained and raced horses in Wisconsin during the bush track years. He and his granddaughter, Katie, gamed many years in Norway, Mi., Marinette and Oconto counties, with the horse shows being special because of his many friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; a daughter, Cheri; two grandchildren; four brothers, Robert (Sharon), of Pulaski, Vern (Pam) and Don (Kathy), of Porterfield and Ken (Judy), of Peshtigo; many nieces; nephews; special friends, Don and Shannon, Joe and Sandy, Kathy, Rylee, John and Julie, Kim and Kevin and Kimberly.
Family and friends may call Thursday, April 24 at Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home from 3 p.m. until time of a Memorial Service at 6 p.m., with Rev. Kevin Dembinski officiating.
