THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Poppies Offered To Area Public
Issue Date: April 30, 2014
During the month of May, the red paper poppy will be offered to the public by the American Legion Auxiliary of Wausaukee. Volunteers from unit 150 will once again take part in the nationwide program in memory of the soldiers who gave their lives in the cause of freedom. These red paper poppies are hand made by the veterans and purchased from the shop by the Auxiliary. Contributions made are used by unit 150 to aid needy veterans and their families. All proceeds go to the veteran programs that Unit 150 support.
The red petals stand for the vast outpouring of blood; the yellow and black center, the mud and desolation of all battlefields; the green of the stem is symbolic of the forests, meadows and fields where generations of Americans have perished to make this land free. The stem represents the courage and determination of fallen warriors. The assembled product, a flower, is a symbol of Resurrection, which follows.
