Huberty Is Top Field Athlete At UMAC Meet
The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) distributed 35 all-conference awards for women's outdoor track and field on Wednesday, with 19 of them going to the College of St. Scholastica and 13 more going to the University of Minnesota Morris. Both the Saints and Cougars scored 200 or more points in Saturday's UMAC championship, ensuring a rather dominant awards list for the two teams.
St. Scholastica's Laurel Ohaju was named the championship's women's track athlete of the meet. Ohaju took first place in both the 200 and 400 meter races while running the second leg of the Saints' 4x400 meter relay team that claimed first place as well.
Teammate, Becky Huberty of Lena, earned women's field athlete of the meet honors following a first place finish in both the shot put and hammer throw events. Huberty's toss in the shot put was a UMAC Championship record and currently ranks 15th in the NCAA Division III performance list, while her hammer throw was also a new championship meet record.
