Thomas Weisend Safford II, 64, of Carney, passed away at home on May 15.
Born to Georgianna and Thomas Safford on Nov. 24, 1949, he graduated from Rapid River School in 1968 and attended West Point Academy. In 1972, he graduated from Northern Michigan University with a secondary educational degree in Chemistry and Biology. After graduation, he worked as an educator and later became the Principal of Carney-Nadeau Public School. For the last 35 years he has enjoyed providing service to his State Farm clients.
An active participant in the Carney Evangelical Free Church, he expressed his love and faith in Jesus Christ. He enjoyed golf, snowmobiling, riding his Harley, hunting, exercise, nutrition and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Georgiana Mae Safford; his wife, Alice Marie (Field) Safford; two grandchildren; siblings, Cindy (Peter) Brock, Jenny Safford, Rev. Susan (Rev. Mike Kennedy) Safford Gaul, and brother, Sim (Martha) Safford; multiple uncles; aunts; nieces; nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Mae Safford; two brothers, Klint and Daniel Duke Safford and his father, Thomas Weisend Safford.
Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. until time of a funeral service at 5:30 p.m. CST on Thursday, May 22 at Carney Evangelical Free Church. A brief graveside service will follow at Carney Free Church Cemetery, followed by dinner at the church. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
