Charles Leslie Keefer, 69, of Tomah, passed away May 23 at Mayo Health Center in La Crosse.
Born Aug. 13, 1944, adopted by Henry and Frieda Keefer of Redding, Ca. he graduated from Shasta Union High School in Redding, Ca. in 1962. He attended California College of Mortuary Science and was drafted and entered the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War. He married Kay Klein on Aug. 26, 1971 and in 1979, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a career military man, retiring on July 31, 1995 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He was stationed in Italy, Turkey, Germany, Korea and several bases in the United States.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, cooking, reading, and playing piano and guitar. He also enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. On Aug. 3, 2013, he married Jolene Fedderson at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Tomah.
He is survived by his wife, Jolene; two daughters, Carolyn Bottkol (Daniel), of Stephenson, Mi. and Connie Joslin (Matthew), of Menominee, Mi.; three grandsons; a sister, Lois Leighton, of Redding, Ca.; a nephew and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward Keefer, of Redding, Ca. and a son, Kevin Keefer.
Visitation was held Saturday, May 31 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Tomah from 10 a.m. until time of the Funeral services at 11 a.m., followed by a brunch by the Ladies Aid. Interment will be at a later date. Monetary gifts will be donated to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
