Debra A Vandenberg, 56, of DePere, passed away surrounded by her family at Appleton Medical Center on Wednesday, July 2, following complications from surgery.
Born in Freedom, Oct. 29, 1957, she worked at Humana in De Pere for 31 years. She married Joe Vandenberg on Sept. 13, 1986 and they spent 27 years together.
She enjoyed working in her flower garden, playing in cribbage tournaments with her Mom, shopping, especially at Craft Fairs in Kohler and spending time at the cottage in Crivitz. A member of the Sweet Adelines, she had a beautiful voice and often sang at weddings and funerals.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Vandenberg, De Pere; her mother, Kathleen (Jean) Hooyman, Freedom; a sister, Kathy Hayes (Ron), Oconto; a brother, Gary Hooyman (Sherry), Shiocton; brothers-in-law, Dick (Ruth) and Steve (Yati), both of Kaukauna; Tom(Sherry), Sheboygan; Tony (June), West Bend; Jon, Freedom and Robb, Appleton; three godchildren; many nieces; nephews; aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her father, Les Hooyman last October and special friend, Mary Verbeten.
A visitation was held at Fargo Funeral Home, Kaukauna at 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation continued on Monday, July 7 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom at 9 a.m. until time of the funeral liturgy at 11 a.m., with Father Walter Stumpf officiating
