Catherine Mary (Kay) Wheelock, 97, of Owen, Wi., passed away July 1 in the Clark County Health Care Center where she lived since 2009.
Born Oct. 22, 1916 in Wausaukee in the Frank Peeters farmhouse, to Anton and Caroline (Peeters) Vedra, she was the second oldest of 10 children. She graduated from Wausaukee High School in 1934 and then moved to the Green Bay area where she spent most of her adult years.
After attending business school there, she was employed as a secretary for Jim Gallagher Films. In later years, she worked for the IRS and as a legal stenographer and completed her career at Moore Business Forms from where she retired as Human Resources Director. She was a successful career woman and loved being a wife, daughter, sister, family advisor, confidante, aunt, loyal friend and Godmother.
She married Gerald R Wheelock Jan. 19, 1946 and they traveled through Michigan U P and along Lake Superior shoreline in the Marquette area and always packed a lunch in a picnic basket. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1989.
She is survived by a sister, Mary (Max) Falat, Simi Valley, Ca.; brothers, George (Rose) Vedra, Rockton, Ill. and Gerald (Carol) Vedra, Princeton, Mn.; a sister-in-law, Connie (Paul David) Vedra, Stillwater, Mn.; many nieces; nephews; great nieces and great nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Frances and Norman Kunick, Elaine and Ray Wouters and Virginia and Robert Minix; brothers, Charles and Marge Vedra, Paul David Vedra and Anthony Vedra; and a brother-in-law, Max Falat.
Per her request, there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church, 220 S. Michigan Street, DePere, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 12 with Rev. Judah Pigon, MF officiating. There will be a luncheon will follow in the church hall, followed by inurnment in Nicolet Memorial Gardens, 2770 Bay Settlement Rd., Green Bay. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements
