From our readers

Letter to the Editor:

This is in response to the letter in the Peshtigo Times by Jim and Sandy Ring. My husband and I thought we should also tell our side of the story.

We signed a pre-paid contract with Customers Gas and now the company is holding $1,669.55 of our money, which he refuses to return. We were told to send a letter requesting a refund. Well, we sent two letters requesting a refund and did not receive a reply from either one of them. We too called many, many times and got the run around that “Oh, we will be out next week to fill you.” But guess what? Next week never came. They finally put an answering machine in and of course none of the calls were ever returned. We called the Price home and got the answering machine, only this time the mail box was full and we could never leave a message.

We too had been with Customers for many years and just can’t figure out how he can keep our money and that of many other of his customers. We did not receive service for our pre-pay and not even the courtesy of a return call or response to our requests for a refund. It makes us wonder how this man sleeps at night or how he faces himself in the mirror. This, folks, is out and out theft!

We saved so we would have the money to pre-pay so he could purchase the propane cheaper but obviously the money went south or someone is living very high on the hog. There are his trucks standing empty in the yard along with empty storage tanks and a store full of merchandise. Where is our money??? He should be made to liquify his assets and return our money before the next heating season!

It was in the Peshtigo Times a while back that one of his customers took him to court and was told by the judge that he couldn’t make him pay. Why was never explained. He is holding money that people paid in good faith and most likely hard-earned money. We are on a fixed income and cannot afford to just lose $1,699.55! People are wondering how they will pay for the coming heating season but Mr. Price obviously does not care. He has our money!

We filed a complaint with the Consumer Protection Agency and received a response that they are looking into this matter and to be patient. We were also told that they had many, many complaints against this company and it was the only propane company that they received complaints about. All other companies were able to get propane and service their customers. WHERE IS OUR MONEY?

We think it is high time that we customers out there get on the band wagon and file a class action lawsuit against this man and his company! With the economy such as it is, no one can afford to just look the other way and say, “Oh, well, that’s the way it goes!” Baloney, that’s not the way it goes. It’s our money, folks, and we are entitled to get it back. After all, what are the courts for? Only on the side of the crooks? Not right. Let’s do something about this and soon. Sorry to say, winter is just around the corner and we will all need propane.

Jerry and Judie Reilley,

Crivitz

To the Editor:

I sent a letter to Customers Gas and the Department of Ag. and Consumer Protection in Madison on April 14 and a completed Consumer Complaint form. This was regarding prepaid money sent to Customers Gas in June of 2013 to be used for fuel to April 15 of 2014.

I received a letter dated April 30, 2014 from the Bureau of Consumer Protection stating that the mediation process would take an undetermined length of time, and advised to contact a private attorney if I wanted to. No, I want action by those that are in jobs to protect its citizens.

This past May 16 I sent Gov. Walker and our state representative a letter requesting some kind of action being taken on behalf of the working people who worried, lost money, time and simple comfort needed during a harsh winter. To date I have heard nothing.

Additionally, we found a lack of any protection for being honest and paying for a needed fuel we never received. I cannot even tell you how devastating it was for families and single persons to live in these conditions in the middle of winter. No one seemed to care, except the many of us affected. I am still very upset for all of the victims of this matter. I am also upset that no one seems to have any answers that will help recoup our losses. Thank you, Lord, for the help of neighbors, friends and relatives who showed compassion for the people in trouble.

The big business buyers and who we are supplying is of great concern to the average citizen. We again seem to be at a great disadvantage. Apparently contracts are not written to protect individuals?

Sincerely,

Janis A. Schnabl,

Wausaukee

Editor:

I was deeply disturbed when I attended the last meeting of a service organization that I belong to (will not name). It was suggested that we put up signs (8 1/2 x 11) to remind people to vote in the Aug. 12 Statewide primary at our annual fundraiser.

Someone thought it would be TACKY and might offend some people. This is a SLAP in the face of all our military men and woman who have served to give us this right and freedom in our country. I’m deeply concerned and offended by this attitude. If you do not like anyone on the ballot, vote anyway, do a write in or tell the candidates you do not approve of their work.

I came across a high school diploma from 1911 for an Edna lindquist. I am wondering if we could put it in the paper to get it to a family member or maybe the historical society. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

To the Editor:

This thank you note is for ALL our hardworking Marinette County road crews out there in the heat! You guys did a great job on ‘Ole Trail “C” to Wabeno, a most challenging grade built on boulders, that goes up and over “the mountain.” For those of us who dwell in that forgotten corner of the county, this is the first fresh pavement seen on this road in MANY a year!

People in Silver Cliff and Athelstane will no longer have to “go the long way ‘round” to get to Wabeno! I am sure the various business who are forced to run this route everyday (such as that poor fellow from CarQuest in Wausaukee) will share our heartfelt appreciation.

Please take a moment and remember all our automotive components who sadly perished on this treacherous road; the countless tires, ball joints, tie-rod ends, shocks, springs and struts, sway-bar end-links and leaf spring bushings, the one trailer hitch, all the bent rims, the fan shroud and the cracked Ford frame.

So in closing, we thank you so much for your hard work, and your wonderful blacktop!

Keep up the good work, Marinette County!

Sabin Rosenbaum,

Silver Cliff
