THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Delores (Dee) Slawson, 68, of Elgin, Ill., passed away Sunday, July 6 at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove.
Born June 18, 1946, in Menominee, Mi., to Willard and Agnes (Pearson) Erickson, she resided in Elgin for the past 26 years. A member of First United Methodist Church in Elgin, she was a business teacher, starting her career in Marinette. She held positions in business, including nine years at Safety Kleen in Elgin.
An avid singer, she sang in church choirs and her husband's choral groups and worked as office manager for Heartland Voices until her illness in 2008. She was a great cook and baker, specializing in Swedish almond cake, requested by all. She had a giving spirit and personality for family and grandchildren, referring to her as "Deema." Her favorite place to visit was Mackinac Island.
Surviving are her husband, John G. Slawson, whom she married on June 3, 1972 in Marinette; two children, Nicole (Justin) Riebock, of Hampshire, Ill. and Nathan (Andrea) Slawson, of Chicago, Ill. and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, many special aunts and uncles, and a dear friend, Sher.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. until time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Covenant Church, Stephenson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Scleroderma Foundation (Scleroderma.org) or Heartland Voices. Laird Funeral Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
