Cut Ribbon- A formal ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication for the new Bay Area Medical Center (BAMC) was held Thursday, July 19. The new hospital is scheduled to open Thursday, Aug. 16. Cutting the ribbon left to right include, Jim Koronkiewicz, Pat O'Hara, Sandy Ewald, Dr. Steve Caselton, Pat Krah, Chuck Hawkins, Marc Jamo and Jeff Bard.

Bay Area Medical Center Scheduled to Open Aug. 16

Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette held a dedication ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, July at 4:30 p.m. to celebrate the completion of the new hospital.

The opening welcome was given by Ed Harding, BAMC President and CEO; Craig Mansur, Director of Pastoral Care gave the Invocation; Remarks about the new facility were given by Pat Krah, BAMC Board Chairperson; Sandy Ewald, AAH North Region Leader and BAMC Board Member; Bill Santulli, Advocate Aurora Health, Chief Operating Officer; Michael Karkkainen, DO, Aurora Bay Area Medical Group Board Chairman; Tom Boldt, Chief Executive Officer, The Boldt Company; Bernie VanCourt, BAMC Chief Operating Officer; and Jerry Derusha, Community Member. Closing remarks were again given by Ed Harding. Ribbon Cutting followed the speeches along with a reception.

The new hospital was built on 91 acres of property, with the building size of 332,000 square feet. There have been 1,300 workers/vendors since the project started, with 850,000 hours of work on the project. Zero number of days lost to injury.

Project budget was $135 million, with $20 million in local expenditures. A total of 192 miles of computer cables were used, 148 security cameras, and 436 speakers. There was 15,000 cubic yards of concrete used or 60,750,000 pounds, $4,216,626 pounds of steel, 215,000 bricks, 124,044 cubic yards of sand fill (almost 7,000 dump trucks), and 1,595 tons of materials recycled during construction.

The new hospital has 1,242 rooms, 1.5 miles of corridors, 322 windows, 180 bathrooms, 190 toilets, 620 sinks, 9.4 miles of water piping. Also 198 medical gas outlets, 5.3 miles of medical gas piping. A total of 1,900 foot Tube System - a tube carrier would take 1 minutes 35 seconds to travel the full distance, walking the 1,900 feet would take 10 minutes 55 seconds.

There are 10.5 miles of ductwork, 9.7 miles of mechanical piping, laying interior studs end to end would reach from Marinette to Chicago, and 1,500,000 square feet of drywall or enough to cover 26 football fields.

Electrical wired totaled 527 miles, 7,341 receptacles, 4,700 light fixtures, and 150 electrical panels and 24 transformers.

The facility cost $135 million dollars to build and plans to open Aug. 16.
