Gordon "Gordy" E. McMahon, 87, of Gillett, passed away in the evening hours of Monday, Dec. 31, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay after declining health, surrounded by family.
Born Dec. 27, 1931 in Gillett, to the late Ross and Mildred (Hodgins) McMahon, he graduated from Gillett High School in 1950 and liked history. He served in the United States Air Force as a SSGT with the 941st Forward Observers during the Korean Conflict. On June 4, 1960, he married Mavis J, (Gilbertson) McMahon and they raised five children.
For many years, they owned and operated McMahon's Foods before selling the store in 1976. He then worked as a custodian for Gillett School District and a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1994.
An avid gardener, he also loved decorating his home for Christmas, took an interest in his ancestry, especially his Irish heritage and was a caring father and grandfather.
Survivors include four children, Gary (Jacqui) McMahon of Suamico, Glen McMahon of Gillett and Sharon (Brian) Powell and Michael McMahon, both of Brillion; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Jim Baranczyk; a brother, James (Florence) McMahon and many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 58 years, Mavis; a daughter, Constance "Connie" Baranczyk; a sister, Donna (Carroll) Rehn and a brother, Robert McMahon.
Friends and relatives called at Legacy Funeral Chapels in Gillett on Sunday, Jan. 6 from noon to 1:45 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial with full Military Honors followed in Wanderer's Rest Cemetery.
