Menominee Rolls To Win In Semis
Issue Date: March 18, 2020
The Menominee Maroons took a solid win last week in semifinal play, defeating the Gladstone Braves way of a 74-64 verdict to advance to the district championship game.
"Defensively I didn't think we were at our best," said Menominee Head Coach Sam Larson. "Offensively we were really sharp and executed well."
Menominee opened the game up early with some well rounded scoring from multiple Maroons, helping to push their boys to the 33-28 halftime lead.
"When you have players like Castor come down court with a full head of steam its tough to stop them," said Larson. "Especially in the fourth quarter when they got going. I thought we were able to score with them for most of the game."
Menominee was led in the victory by Bellisle with 28 points. Conway with 14 and Uecke with 10 points.
"Cooper was huge for us in that first half," said Larson. "He knocked down those threes for us and gave us that big lead. In the second half Keagan Monroe and Aiden really broke down the 1-3-1 and gave us the push we need."
Gladstone was led by Castor with 18 points, Ballard with 17 points and allowed with nine.
"I thought Bellisle was phenomenal tonight," said Larson. "His aggressiveness offensively was key for us. It helped us sustain our lead in the second half."
Unfortunately the MSHAA suspended all post season play which brought an end to the Maroons tournament run.
