Menominee Battles Hard For 4-1 Week

Issue Date: July 1, 2020

Red Wave Shuts Down Iron Mountain

The Menominee Red Wave baseball team scored a solid 10-3 win over the home field Iron Mountain boys Wednesday night.

The win saw the Red Wave with an explosive start to the game, setting the tone with 3 first inning runs. Those runs were obtained off RBI singles from Keaton Uecke and Austin Burnside.

During the top of the fourth the Red Wave saw their Andrew Schroeder slug a home run over the left field fence. This home run was floured a short while later by another off the bat of Jaden Werner. And before the inning could be set down Buddy Beyer swatted a an RBI single to make it a 6-2 game.

During the fifth inning the Red Wave loaded up the bases and Jaden Werner was struck by a pitch for a run. Keagan Monroe took the plate next and drove home three runs off his double making it a 9-3 game.

Before the game was done Monroe added one more RBI single to his name to give the game its final tally of 10-3.

Red Wave Defeats Negaunee

Menominee had no troubles keeping their win streak alive against the Negaunee who they slammed by way of a 12-2 final score.

Austin Burnside took the big win allowing two hits, two runs and one walk while striking out 12 on the night.

The Menominee Red Wave played host to the Sault Ste. Marie boys Sunday afternoon, setting down the boys from the Sault with a win in game one with 1-0 and a turnaround win in game two 11-0.

"I thought the pitching was great today," siad Menominee head cvoach John Lauzer. "Each team had only two hits so it was good pitching by both of us."

Game one was all about pitching a defense as neither team posted any point till the final frame. During the final frame Menominee worked its way to a game winning run. Starting off that winning effort, Braeden McMahon drew a walk. Austin Burnside laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance McMahon. With two outs Ethan Russel hit a shot to center field allowing McMahon to score the game winning run.

Monroe took the win for Menominee allowing one walk and sticking out nine. He allowed no hits.

"I always tell the pticher just throw the ball and dont worry," said Lauzer. "You just pitch and we'll take care of the defense behind you."

Game two was a much different story for the string hitting Red Wave. The contest saw the Red Wave surge to an 11-0 shutout.

This time around the Red Wave opened the game with some scoring. Jaden Werner scored off a Keagan Monroe triple. Buddy Beyer scored off a passed ball helping to bring the tally to 3-0.

Menominee increased the lead during the second frame by two additional runs while six more runs were scored between the third and fourth innings.

Dante Sartorelli picked up the win for Menominee allowing one hit while walking three. He struck out nine.

Red Wave Suffer First Loss of the Season Against Marquette

The Menominee Red Wave had an amazing start to the summer baseball season going 11-0 before falling to the Marquette team by way of a 11-6 final verdict.

Menominee and Marquette traded blows over the first inning with the score tied 3-3 by the second inning. During the third they traded blows again with each team scoring one in their respective half innings. But it was the fourth that broke the tie for Marquette as they slugged their way to seven runs.

Menominee fought back with one run apiece over the fifth and sixth innings to give themselves a final score of 11-6 in favor of Marquette.

Jaden Werner was saddled with the loss for Menominee allowing nine hits, 10 runs and two walks while striking out four.
