
Philip T. EckstromIssue Date: January 13, 2021 Philip Truman Eckstrom, 81, of Geneva, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021.
Born July 5, 1939 in Wallace, Mi., to Truman and Florence (Anderson) Eckstrom, he graduated from Stevenson High School in 1957 and married Nancy Lee Hittle on Dec. 17, 1960 in Saginaw, Mi. He then graduated from Michigan State University in 1961 and received a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan in 1965.
A loving husband and father, they raised one son and three daughters, he had a passion for the Lord, Savior Jesus Christ and supported many missionaries in America and around the world. He served in the Public Health Service from 1966 until 1968 and then practiced medicine for 35 years in Michigan and Wisconsin, beginning at the Boren Clinic in Marinette.
He loved making music, especially at Christmas time when he organized what became known as "Grandpa's Band" to play Christmas carols. Known for his quick wit, smile and kind and compassionate spirit, he and his wife had a faithful, loving marriage for over 60 years.
He enjoyed playing cards, taking trips with family and special friends Don and Lori, and walking in the woods.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four children, Elizabeth (Rich), Philip (Greta), Julie (Rich) and Jennifer (John); 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Dave (Carol) and Dan (Marg); a sister, Ruth and a brother-in-law, Chuck.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol; sister-in-law, Ginger and brother-in-law, Paul.
A family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home of Stephenson is assisting the family with arrangements.
