To the Editor:

This is in regards to the letter that you published form Mary Peterson in the June 6 edition. Ms. Peterson is complaining about the Board spending money to purchase (10) 4x8 treated posts that will be used to mark the walking trail along Pickerel Lake.

Where was Ms. Peterson when the previous Board wasted over $10,000 on legal fees and other expenses, in an underhand attempt to take my property? I’ll tell you where she was. She was right there prodding the old Board along into spending even more of your tax dollars.

As Ms. Peterson points out, she and her husband moved up here eight years ago and ever since then, is when the troubles with the Pickerel Lake public walking trail began. Apparently, the Petersons do not want the public to know about this walking trail along Pickerel Lake, and why not?

Well, for starters, the Petersons use the walkway as their own personal driveway. A few years back, they even had a portion of the walkway trail that abuts their property paved with asphalt. They have parked their RV on the walkway trail for months at a time, as well as other items. They have put up “NO Trespassing” signs as you enter the walkway from the east. It was only a few weeks ago, when the Petersons parked a trailer crossways on the trail that blocked the entire trail. The Oconto County Sheriff’s Department was notified and the Petersons were ordered to move the trailer off the trail.

The Petersons claimed that the trailer had a flat tire as to the reason it was parked across the trail. How pathetic, the Petersons own property on both sides of the trail, and how is it possible that the trailer tire went flat, precisely the moment that the Petersons drove on the trail, and why were the Petersons driving on the trail in the first place?

The real problem is not with the supervisors purchasing some 4x8 posts in order to mark the trail, it is with the Petersons and Chairman Ryan Wendt. If the Petersons would respect everyone else’s right to use the trail and Wendt would do his duty as Town Chairman, there would not be a need to install any posts along the trail.

As long as I lived here on Pickerel Lake there has never been an issue with the walking trail until the Petersons arrived. Everyone living in the area knew where the trail was and everyone respected each other’s property.

Property Owner

Letter to the Editor:

I write this not to gloat but to thank all of you who helped and “Stood with Scott Walker” during this historic recall election. This makes the first time in U.S. history that a governor has survived a recall effort. Not just surviving but decidedly beating out Tom Barrett to remain in office. Per the Journal Sentinel Scott Walker carried 61 of our 72 counties with Tom Barrett winning only 11.

For those of us who live in the far northeastern corner of the state it is quite amazing how small a voice we have. Oconto, Forest and Florence Counties turned out a total of 22,546 voters (all three favored Walker big time). That compares with almost 400,000 in Milwaukee County alone. Luckily all those “small” numbers around the state added up and gave the victory to Governor Walker and Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch!

We are indeed a state divided into the majority of counties espousing traditional conservative values and a few areas with big populations that want big government (read lots of handouts). Hopefully, over the summer we will find a way to heal our differences and  take Wisconsin forward…. “ON WISCONSIN”!!!

John Brantmeier,

Townsend

HAPPY GRADUATION

Now that graduation’s here,

You may have mixed feelings as it draws near

A feeling of accomplishment, joy and cheer.

A feeling of loneliness, sadness and fear.

It’s a time for rejoicing that’s very dear,

Yet remembering past joys may bring a tear.

But graduation’s only another stepping stone,

And you do not have to walk alone.

Just remember the story of footprints in the sand,

When things are easy, God walks with you

and gently holds your hand.

But when the mountains get rough and steep.

And you’re lost in deep despair.

and you look down and see,

One set of footprints there.

Remember, God still loves you,

And He’ll always see you through.

For it’s at that very roughest time,

That God is carrying you.

********

Thanks Dad

Appreciate your father,

For the things you see him do.

Say a simple “Thank you”,

and a gentle “I Love You.”

It could make a world of difference

In your world and his world too.

For many problems have been solved

By a simple “I Love You”.

So appreciate your father,

Each and every day.

Start now to make a difference,

You’ll be glad you did someday.
