Coleman And Suring Move On Seewald Scores 6 Teedees To Spark 40-6 Win Over Crivitz; Suring Runs To 42-13 Victory
Talk about a career performance.
Coleman junior quarterback Trevor Seewald made his way to the end zone six times in a 40-6 Division 6 playoff win over Crivitz Friday night. The 58 signal caller came up huge with scoring runs of 41, 8, 1, 5 and 3 yards along with returning a blocked punt for points.
The Level 1 playoff road win gives the Cougars (6-3) a second round home date with top seed Edgar (9-0) on Friday, October 26 at 7pm. Edgar has won 2 of the last 3 state championships.
It is nice to get back to Level 2...know that our work is cut out for us against Edgar. They have been one of the most consistent football schools in the state. Edgar will push our team to play at our best every single snap. It will be a test. But, as a competitor, playing Edgar should get you motivated, Coleman coach Jeff Bronson said.
Coleman had no trouble with M-O Conference rival Crivitz in the playoff opener and neither did Suring, which rolled to a lopsided win in Division 7.
The Eagles (9-0) totaled 444 yards of offense to soar to a 42-13 win over visiting Almond-Bancroft. The backfield duo of Dillon Kempen and Jay Tienor combined for 250 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns in the post-season win.
Suring will continue to enjoy a homefield advantage, hosting Owen-Withee (8-1) Saturday at 1pm in Level 2 action.
Seewald Enjoys Career
Performance, Scores 6
TDs In Coleman Romp
It didnt take a lot of time for the Cougars to set the tone for Friday nights opening round Division 6 game against the Wolverines.
Coleman quarterback Trevor Seewald, on the teams third offensive play of the night, hammered his way through the Crivitz front line and found some daylight for a 41-yard score, the first of his six touchdowns on the evening.
Up 8-0 following a Seewald to Mason Mergener pass for the two extra points, the Cougars defense forced Crivitz into a punt and returned the ball to their offense late in the first frame.
After driving his team into the red zone, it was once again Seewald capping things off with an eight-yard run off of a keeper play that went for six points to put the visiting Cougars up 14-0.
Colemans defense again did its job once the Wolverines got the ball back, playing stingy and allowing only four yards before fourth down and the punt team came calling.
The Cougars, looking for the proverbial nail that would close the coffin lid, went right to work and it was Seewald again providing the highlight reel material. On first and 10, Seewald rolled out of the pocket and picked up a healthy 22 yards. Dexter Karban (25 attempts, 127 yards) had a nice run to get the Cougars inside the five yard line later in the drive and then Seewald kept it himself on a third-and-goal play from the one, breaking free of a couple of Crivitz tacklers in the process to put the game out of reach at 22-0.
Trevor was outstanding. For him to score in the ways that he did, it was more than obvious that he was determined to win, said Coleman head coach Jeff Bronson. When one of your team leaders puts forth that type of effort, you can see other players becoming infected with that same effort.
The Wolverines caught a spark later in the second quarter when Jake Sawinski picked off a Seewald pass but the home team was unable to make anything happen on offense.
Crivitz did get the ball back late in the second quarter but couldnt get anything going and had to once again send out the punt team with 48 seconds left in the half and pinned down on their own 15. Eying the knockout punch, the Coleman special teams unit put a little extra into its push towards the Crivitz kicker, Sawinski, who had his hands full trying to deal with a long snap that nearly sailed right over his head. The duo of Karban and Joey Styczynski came through the line and combined for a block, which was picked up, almost as if it were scripted, by Seewald and strolled into the end zone to put Coleman up 28-0 going into the locker room.
If there was any doubt as to the outcome of the game at this point, it disappeared quickly in the third as Seewald took the second halfs opening kickoff and raced 80 yards for his fifth score and extending the Cougar lead to 34-0.
The Wolverines, who showed signs of life with its passing attack throughout the game, picked up its lone score of the evening later in the third frame when quarterback A.J. Garcia (11 for 20, 156 yards) found Parker DeLosSantos (four catches, 91 yards) with a beautiful pass that went 30 yards.
Offense Erupts For
444 Yards As Suring
Claims Opener 42-13
Unleashing a 354 yard running game, the Eagles made their way up and down the field for a 42-13 Division 7 playoff win over visiting Almond-Bancroft. Despite turning the ball over 4 times in the first half, Suring battled to a 14-0 lead then put the game away with 14 more points in period three.
We played okay, not great and certainly were not efficient. We turned the ball over 3 times all year then had 4 in the first half alone. Put the ball on the ground 3 times and had a pick, Suring coach Mitch Taylor said. The second half we played a lot better while our defense was solid again.
Leading the Eagles to the post-season rout was the one-two running combination of Dillon Kempen and quarterback Jay Tienor. Kempen battered Almond-Bancroft for 142 yards on 22 carries and 3 scores while Tienor added 9 rushes for 108 yards and a touchdown. Creo VanBellinger chipped in with 54 yards on 9 attempts and Blake Strehlow 36 yards on 9 carries.
The running game was great as our line blew them right off the ball. We did what weve been doing all year, spread them out and take what we can get, Taylor added.
Overcoming those opening bobbles, Suring managed to pry open a 14-0 lead at intermission. Kempen blasted into the end zone from a yard out for a 7-0 first quarter lead while Tienor busted loose on a 28 yard scamper in period two. Blake Strehlow was perfect on all 6 of his extra point kicks in the clash.
After a halftime chat with Taylor and his staff, Suring took control in period three. Kempen raced in from 15 yards out and Tienor hooked up with Cody Christensen on a 31 yard scoring toss for a commanding 28-zip cushion.
Both teams lit up the scoreboard in the fourth quarter. Kempen scooted in from 7 yards while Sam Schaal added a two yard jaunt.
Almond-Bancroft avoided the shutout when Reagan Anderson raced 92 yards with a kickoff and Joe Beigel caught a 31 yard pass from Evan Pagel.
