Pearl Bashford

Pearl Driscoll Bashford, 101, passed away peacefully at her home in Palm Harbor, Fla. on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

Born June 7, 1911 in Menominee of German immigrant parents, Martha Linberg and Herman Polzin, she graduated from Peshtigo High School and Milwaukee Business College.

She married Norman “Nebo” Driscoll in 1935 and they owned and operated Driscolls Texaco and Phillip 66 Gas Station, located on the corner of E. Front Street and Pine St., Peshtigo from 1935 until 1965. They washed car windows, checked the oil and the tires, did repairs as well as fill the tank and she was right out there helping. Her husband, Nebo lost his right arm in a Badger Mill accident, but the injury did not impair him from doing anything. He built the service station and a family home next door and learned to use his left hand continuing to be active in bowling, fishing and hunting.

They were a very social couple and very active in the community. They also enjoyed many years at their cottage on Waubee Lake in Lakewood. He preceded her in death in 1965. Seven years later she married Carson Bashford of Peshtigo. The couple moved to Green Bay and retired in Highland Lakes, Palm Harbor, Fla. in 1985. He died in 2002.

She was a diehard Green Bay Packer fan, enjoyed a Brandy Old Fashion, loved to watch football and play a good old game of canasta. She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking and baking for family and other people. She was never idle and always had a project. Artistic and creative, she loved to knit, sew, paint, ceramics and upholster furniture. She will be remembered for her warm smile and pleasant, happy personality.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna Driscoll Larson and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Heroux Driscoll, both of Palm Harbor Fla., and a daughter, Jayne Driscoll Meyer of Eden Prairie, Minn. In addition, she is survived by eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Jones; a brother, Ervin Polzin; a son, James Driscoll and a grandson, Scott Larson.

A funeral service was held at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church, Clearwater, Fla. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, followed by a gathering at her home for a celebration of life. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice, or Zion Lutheran Church in Peshtigo.
