Athelstane Board to Add Public Comment Issue Date: June 20, 2019 The regular monthly meeting of the Athelstane Town Board was called to order by Chairman Kelly Barnes on Tuesday, June 11 at 7 PM in the town hall.
Chairman Barnes called for a moment of silence for our Animal Control Officer, Ryker Plosczynski, who we lost in an accident a few weeks ago. Roll call of officers was taken with all officers present. There were eight people in attendance. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
In Communications, Barnes said Public Comment was not on the agenda. When he took office last fall, Public Comment was not on the agenda, but he brought it back with the stipulation that everyone respects each other. He is in favor of Public Comment to find out any concerns or issues people are having that can be addressed. However, at last month's meeting, his authority was not only challenged, but ignored. So, Public Comment will not be on the agenda for a while, but he would like to bring it back at some point in time, because it is advantageous to everyone involved.
There is an encroachment problem on a road. The problem will be identified by a free survey which will benefit the property owners, who currently have a clouded title because of the encroachment.
Barnes clarified that survey methods have not changed " tools have changed, now there is GPS that makes it easier.
By having one person vs. two people work at the Recycling Center, it saves the town approximately $30,000 to $40,000 in wages and benefits annually.
Dennis Tomko wants to put a stop sign on town property. He cannot purchase the sign thru the town. He can make a donation to the town or purchase the sign himself and the town will install it.
Fire Chief, Scott Durian, was not available for report. He is assisting the fire department with downed trees and wires from an afternoon storm.
Scott Durian was also not available to give the Planning Commission report. Greg Reinhardt gave the Treasurer's report: April 30, 2019 Balance $430,631.60, Receipts to number 6691 $11,706.41, Disbursements $27,014.07, Month ending May 31, 2019 $415,323,94, Checking had $11,316.73, $178,673.58 General Money Market, $106,136.38 Tax Money Market , and $119,197.25 Certificate of Deposit for $ 415,323.94 total.
Kelly LaCount gave the Hi-Way report which trees are down on Northway Drive and Lost Lake Trail. Three culverts have been replaced-one on Benson Lake Road, Eagle River Road and Bennett Road. The work on the Western Star dump truck has been completed. The screener is put together and is in the pit and, weather permitting, salt & sand can be mixed.
In New Business, Denis DeJardin preapproved installing a broadband tower on town property.
DeJardin is to advertise for an Animal Control Officer.
DeJardin is to persue a permit violation on N12897 Tetlow Terrace.
