Post 139 Takes 2nd at Escanaba Tourney

Issue Date: June 27, 2019

Marinette Wins Close

Match With Bayport

The Marinette Legion Post 39 baseball team showed that they can roll with just about anyone last Wednesday night when they took on the visiting Bayport Legion who they defeated 2-0.

Those all important two runs were both registered in the second inning for the Marinette Legion.

But where Post 39 really shined was on the mound where Seth Seefeldt was able to stop the Bay Port boys at just three hits.

Those two runs were tallied when Hunter Woulf singled, followed by Brandon Eick who also singled. With two runners on Will LaLonde slapped a hit to deep right field allowing him to reach second as well as score Woulf and Eick for the game's only plate visits.

Though Seefeldt pitched a gem of a game he was pulled in the sixth due to pitch count after which Mason Risner came in for a successful closing performance.

Seefeldt would bag the mound win allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out five.

Bay ports Carter Highline took the loss allowing two earned runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out nine.

At the plate Marinette's Woulf was one of one while LaLonde was one of two with two RBIs. Jade Werner went one of three with a double.

Bay Ports Adam Bernklaw was one of two at the plate.

Marinette Splits

in First Day of

Escanaba Tourney

The Marinette Post 39 boys traveled to Escanaba last Friday evening for a tourney that saw them finish 1-1. Marinette won game one against Bark River Harris 8-0 before falling to Midland 5-1.

After a scoreless first inning the Marinette boys opened up a can of runs on the B-R Harris boys finishing the second inning with six runs.

Brandon Eick helped to get that early rally going with a base off a fielders choice. Joe Bezio followed with a single while Will LaLonde brought in two with a single to get Marinette on the board. Mason Risner scored LaLonde to make it a three run game.

Risner got his opening to the plate during Trey Bretl's single while Bloch scored soon after. After Nick Teteak walked the bases were loaded. Woulf took advantage of the moment with a sacrifice fly to make it a 6-0 contest.

Teteak swatted in a run during the fifth inning when he double to bring home Werner. Bretl singled home Teteak to raise the Marinette total to 8-0. The eight run lead was enough to shut the game down early as tournament rules state that a team leading by eight runs in the fifth is the games victor.

Nolan Lemke took the mound win for Marinette in the opener allowing just two hits and four walks while striking out four.

At the plate Bloch was two of three with a run while Bezio went of three with an RBI and a run. Teteak was one of two with an RBI and a run.

Game two turned out to be Midlands game as the tough Legion team kept Marinette back with a 5-1 final verdict.

It was three scoreless innings before anyone made their way around the bases . That first score came from Marinette's Nick Teteak in the fifth when he singled to reach and later scored when Brandon Eick hit a ball that resulted in a fielder's choice that gave Teteak the opening he needed to tag the plate.

Midland responded with a three run bottom of the fourth.

Shane Juday singled to start off the three run rally while teammate Jeff Allen singled next. Derek Beougher loaded the bases with another single. Midland hitter Adam Randall grounded out but gave Juday his plate opening while Ashton Cooley hit a double to bring Midland to the 3-1 lead. With two more runs scored in the fifth the Midland boys were able to hold on defensive as the Marionette hitters were unable to catch up to Midland.

Taking the mound loss for Marinette was Trey Bretl who allowed eight hits, five runs (four earned) and two walks while striking out six.

At the plate Marinette's Teteak was one of three with a run while Lemke, Would and Risner all finished the game with one of three readouts.

Marinette Takes

Semi final Win

The Marinette Legion post 39 squad recovered in the Escanaba tournament with a solid shootout win 9-8 in Gladstone against Kimberly.

Marinette was building a steady lead in this one as they held the 5-1 edge by the fifth inning. But then came the sixth and with it a flood of Kimberly runs. By innings end the Kimberly boys were on top 8-5.

But the lead was short lived as Marinette regained its footing and pushed across push across three more runs to take the win.

Seth Seefeldt took the win for Marinette allowing eight hits and eight runs while stirking out two and walking two.

Jaden Werner and Mason Risner led the way at the plate with two hits apiece.

Marinette Falls in

Title game to Midland

The Marinette Post 39 boys found themselves in the championship round of the Escanaba tournament but were unable to take home the title as Midland bagged the win 5-3.

Marinette was able to build a small lead in this one early on as three runs crossed for Marinette over the the first four innings giving the game a score of 3-1 in favor of Marinette.

It was all Marinette would score as the Midland boys mustered up another four runs to take the win.

Mason Risner was saddled with the loss giving up one walk, five runs and eight hits while striking out three.
