Issue Date: July 11, 2019
Alice H. (Betschart) Johnson, 96, of Marinette, passed away Friday, June 28, 2019 at Rennes Health Care Center-West in Peshtigo.
Born Sept. 22, 1922 in Switzerland, to the late Alois and Elisa Betschart, at age one, she immigrated with her family to the United States and became a US Citizen on June 20, 1961, which became one of the proudest moments of her life.
She graduated from Woodland High School in Woodland, Ca. and on March 23, 1946, she married Conroy Johnson, S/Sgt. in the U.S. Army. They lived in Racine where she worked at Zayre's and K-Mart, before moving to the Marinette area in 2000 and she then worked at Walmart for 12 years.
A quiet, independent person, she enjoyed watching sports with the Cubs, Bears and Golden State Warriors being her favorites, but wrestling was her passion for over 60 years, creating an extensive collection of tapes and magazines. She enjoyed feeding the birds, squirrels and chipmunks in her backyard along with her cat, but most of all, loved visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Gary (Jane) Johnson, Porterfield; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Conroy; a son, John; a brother, Walt Betschart and a sister, Elsa (Albin) Fassler, Elk Grove, Ca.
Per her wishes, a private Celebration of Life will be held. Simply Cremation of Green Bay is assisting the family.
