Issue Date: August 30, 2019
Residents of The Bay at Suring celebrated National Senior Citizens Day at the NEW Zoo on Wednesday, Aug. 21. Residents, their families, and volunteers toured the zoo on the sunny day to see the animals and feed the giraffes. "Everyone was excited about going to the zoo and returned with so much excitement about seeing the animals," said Director of Nursing Necia Jeske. "They were happy to enjoy the beautiful park and time with their families." When the residents were finished exploring the zoo, they enjoyed a picnic lunch.
"Watching the kids feed the birds was the best part of my day," Mavis Suring stated about her visit to the zoo.
National Senior Citizens Day was created by President Ronald Reagan on Aug. 19, 1988 to show appreciation for seniors and their lifelong accomplishments and dedication to their families and community. This day also commemorates their appreciation for their knowledge and experience which they have given to future generations. The Bay at Suring appreciates the families, friends, and staff volunteers who offered their time to help the elders to enjoy the zoo as well as the NEW Zoo for offering an opportunity for residents to enjoy a special experience with their families and friends.
