Peshtigo Stands Tall Over Marinette/Menominee in Tri-City Triangular

Tri-City Triangular

Peshtigo came out strong against Marinette and Menominee at home last night. Both Marinette and Menominee are struggling early this season, trying to find the right fit for their players. Peshtigo first played Menominee, took both games 25-9.

Next Menominee took both games from Marinette. They won 25-10 and 25-9.

Oneida vs Gillett

Last Thursday, is probably a game the Gillett Tigers would like to forget. The Tigers traveled to Oneida to face the Thunderhawks. Gillett seemed to struggle during the second game, barely getting anything started. Oneida won all three sets 19-25, 13-25, and 23-25. Some highlights for the Tigers were Emily Umentum with an ace, two digs and six assits, Karissa Schaal had one ace, and three kills, while Aubrey DeBauch had one ace, and three kills.

Crivitz at St. Thomas Aquinas Academy

Last Thursday, the St. Thomas Aquinas Academy Cavaliers hosted the Crivitz Wolverines. The Cavvies gave Crivitz a run for their money in the first two sets, losing the first 17-25 and the second 17-25. During the final set, STAA lost their steam and fell behind early, and could not come back losing the third 4-25.

A bright spot for STAA was sophomore Lianna Baxter who had 14 kills, followed by freshman Addison Pristelski's 4.

Crivitz was lead by senior setter Sage Nelson with 26 assists and 4 digs. Senior Morgan Gyger had 6 aces and 9 kills while senior Chloe Gruszynski tallied 11 kills and 2 aces.

Niagara at Lena

It was a long night in Lena for the Wildcats as they hosted the Lady Badgers. It seemed that Niagara's reputation may have got into Lena's head even before the match started. The Wildcats struggled to get into their game plan, as Niagara came out and won the first set 25-9. The Lady Badgers kept on their game plan and won sets two and three 25-13.

After the game, Lena's head coach Heidi Place talked about how her team can play better, "we have our ups and downs, they can play better, they can move and block, tonight was just one of those nights."

Niagara's head coach Carol St. Arnauld had this to say about her team's night.

"My team came out strong and united tonight against Lena. We made some crucial changes in our line-up this week that my team not only embraced, but played with a great amount of confidence. Our serving was dominant tonight as well as our set-ups. Communication is something we continue to work on and are improving with each match. I couldn't be more proud of how well this team came together tonight and played with not only their talent but their heart. As well as this team played tonight, we have more to give."

Peshtigo at Gibraltar

The Peshtigo Bulldogs hit a wall against Gibraltar last Thursday night, but were able to pull through in the end. Peshtigo won the first set 25-15, then just barely lost the second set 21-25. Peshtigo also dropped the third set 17-25, but pulled through to will the fourth set 25-22. In the fifth and final set Peshtigo pulled away to win it all 15-6.

Sophomore Tori Jandt had 3 service aces, and 34 digs for the Bulldogs, junior Grace Wickman had 2 aces, 11 kills, and 22 digs, while senior Brenna Schoenebeck and junior Allison Dudka both had 5 kills and 1 block.

Oconto at Oshkosh Lourdes Invite

Oconto won their pool defeating Oshkosh Lourdes 25-17, 20-25, 15-12; St. Mary's Catholic 21-25, 25-18,15-12; and Crivitz 25-15,25-15. In the Gold Bracket Oconto was able to beat Sheboygan South 29-27, 25-14; but lost to Manitowoc 21-25, 19-25. Overall, Oconto placed 3rd out of 16 teams.

Oconto Individual Highlights:

Cora Behnke with 54 kills, 88 digs, and 15 service points. Hannah Moe had 28 kills and 15 blocks. Leah Allan had 17 kills. Kate Bahrke had 105 assists, 5 blocks, and 26 service points.

While Aubree Bucheger had 125 digs, 27 service points. Hailie McDonell had 10 blocks.

Maggie Sohrweide had 62 digs, 30 service points. Emma Walkowiak had 58 digs and 14 service points.

Oconto's Overall record: 11-2



Great 8 Tourney

Niagara traveled to Iron River to take part in the Great 8 Tourney at West Iron County High School. Niagara lost to Florence 18-20, 10-18. Against Forest Park, Niagara was able to take the first game 18-13, but lost the 2nd game 11-18. Iron Mountain also gave Niagara some trouble in their first game beating the Lady Badgers 10-18, Niagara turned it around in their second game against the Mountaineers beating them 18-16. Niagara and Kingsford each took a game 18-13 and 16-18. The Lady Badgers were able to win both games against North Dickinson School 18-15 and 18-15. Niagara beat Norway 18-16 and 18-15. The Badgers also beat the Great 8 host team West Iron County 18-8 and 18-10.

Niagara won 10 games and lost 4.

Crivitz vs Laona/Wabeno

The Crivitz volleyball squad bagged a three set win Tuesday night when they took down the Laona/Wabeno Rebels 25-12, 25-14 and 25-18.

Leading the way for the Wolverines during the quick match was Morgan Gyger with 11 kills, six digs, one assist and four aces. Chloe Gruszynski chipped in six kills, eight digs, one assist and three aces while Sianna Guns got six kills, three digs and one assist. Paige Nelsen did her part with 19 assists, two digs and three aces.

The Crivitz JV won by two matches 25-14, 25-16 and 22-25.



Gillett at Lena

The Gillett Tiger volleyball team took down the Lena Wildcats Tuesday night by way of a four set match. Lena won game one with a 22-25 readout while Gillett took the last three matches 25-13, 25-17 and 25-8.

Leading the way for Gillett was Karissa Schaal who posted eight kills, three digs and one ace. Aubrey DeBauch got four kills, four blocks, two digs and three aces while Naomi Anker posted seven digs and one ace.

Lena's Morgan Cruz posted three kills, two digs and three aces while Lilian Sellen got one kill and five assists.



Wausaukee Beats Coleman

The Wausaukee Lady Ranger Volleyball squad battled it out with the Colmean Cougars Tuesday night in Coleman, coming away with the five set win. Wausaukee won game one 25-18 while Coleman returned fire in the next two sets 25-13 and 25-22. Wausaukee closed strong though as they took the fourth set 25-13 and the final set 15-9.

Wausaukee was led by Kaelyn Schlies with 14 kills, 13 digs, one block and one ace. Kyle Smith posted 13 kills, two digs and four blocks while Amber Caylor added up 24 assists, two kills and four blocks.

Coleman's Michaela Heitler got 10 kills, 10 digs and one block while Cameron Compe posted 16 digs and four aces. Aubrey Kriescher posted seven kills, four assists, one block and three aces.
