Robert William Kahl, 97, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 at the Luther Home.
Born March 31, 1922 at the family home in Menominee, Mi., to William and Gertrude Kahl, he attended school in Menominee. He served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Europe and Munich, Germany and served in the Civilian Conservation Corp.
He married Mary Louise Meyer on Tuesday July 9, 1946 at Saint Williams Mission in Menominee and they celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary this year. He worked at The Grange and the VFW.
He enjoyed working with wood, especially making doll beds and also handcrafted many items for friends, family and the Church. He also built the home that they shared for 68 years, where he worked in his large garden and enjoyed evenings at home with his wife and their cat.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise; a son, Robert A. Kahl; two granddaughters; five great-grandsons; a sister, Margarite and a special nephew, William (Connie) Kahl.
Among his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Marilyn and four brothers, Kenneth, James, John and Joseph.
Visitation will be held at Cadieu Funeral Home in Menominee on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Fr. Brian Gerber presiding. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Military 20 Year Club. Donations can be made to Resurrection Catholic Church, Holy Spirit Catholic Church or the VFW.
