Benefit for Alivia Schulte Nov. 3rd
Issue Date: October 3, 2019
Family and friends of Alivia Schulte of Pound are planning a benefit on Sunday, Nov. 3 at Equity Hall in Pound from 1 to 6 p.m. to help with expenses of prosthetic and other expenses that arise.
While working at a sawmill on Tuesday, Sept. 10, her right hand was cut off by a saw. She was rushed to the hospital in Marinette where they airlifted her to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. She was rushed into surgery and underwent 15 hours to reconstruct her hand and try to save three fingers.
Due to the extend of the injury, the surgery was not successful and there was not enough blood flow to the fingers. She decided then to amputate as the only other option at that time was to do a toe transplant on her hand but they couldn't guarantee the same thing wouldn't happen to her toe. She went through another five hours of surgery to amputate her hand above the wrist and prepare her arm for a prosthetic. She spent a week in the hospital staying positive through it all. She is now home but at this time is not able to work, has many bills to pay, and many more upcoming visits to the hospital.
