Lena School Board Annual, Regular Meetings

The Lena School District Annual Meeting and Budget Hearing and regular meetings were held Monday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room.
At the Annual Meeting Board President Lori Dufek presided. Tina Rouer was elected Chairperson.
The adoption of the agenda was approved as were the minutes of the Oct. 15 meeting.
On motion by Charles Imig, second by Timothy Goldschmidt, the 2020 annual meeting is Oct.5, 2020 at 6:30 pm, in the boardroom as presented.
Also approved at the annual meeting was the budget.
Borrow capital to meet obligations during the 2019-2020 school year was approved.
Salaries to be paid to members of the Lena Board of Education will stay the same at $600 for board members and $50 per meeting, and authorized payment of actual and per diem expenses to Board of Ed members when traveling outside of district in the performance of Board duties.
Also approved were furnishing textbooks and provide a school lunch program, use of funds for legal action needed by the district, sale/transfer of school property, and authorize a tax to be placed on the tax rolls.
The budget was presented by administrator Ben Pytleski.
The Lena Board of Education regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 7 started at 6:54 p.m. after reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Consent items of minutes, agenda, vouchers, and the new and amended readings of School Board Policies were approved.
The Board approved FFA National Convention and future Board meeting dates such as Oct. 21, Nov. 4 and 11, and Dec. 2 and 16 stay at 6:30 p.m. in the board room.
The Drivers Ed contract was approved.
High/Middle School Principal James Torzala said first quarter progress reports were going out. A vision and hearing screening for students in grades 1, 3, 5, and 7 were held on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The craft fair and bake sale is Oct. 20 hosted by the junior class. The 9th through 11th graders had a presentation titled "My Education. My Way" at 8 am on Oct. 9. This helped students start thinking of their future plans.
Principal Ben Pytleski said for walk to school on Oct. 2 88% of students attended. Insurance Consortium was Oct. 8.
The 5K Soup Supper was Oct. 10 at 5 pm in the cafeteria, and annual board leadership training is Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 5:30 pm at Holiday Inn-Kelly Lake.
Lena, was chosen as the site for Rural Schools Advisory Council meeting, and DC Trip is Oct. 24-29th.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are Oct. 24 with an early release for the day at 1pm. There will be no school Friday, Oct. 25.
